Hydraulic or electric assist? On warranty or not?


Binding hydraulic racks were an issue on GM cars during the 80s. Rebuilt steering racks were better, as the rebuilders would put hardened sleeves in the racks when they were refurbished.

My only experience with the newer electric assist racks were on our older '07 Fit, but we never had an issue with ours in 160,000 miles of non-garaged use. A few folks did, however.

If it is still on warranty (or just off) I would bring it to the dealer as suggested, and nicely mention that you have inquired at Honda Corporate. Be prepared to pay for the dealer's diagnostic time. If Honda supports you, that fee should be waived.
