Hello,

so i have a 2017 honda CRV under 3 years old, only 10k miles on it. AC isnt blowing cold at all. semi cool on passenger side warm on drivers side. checked cabin filter nothing blocking it. Called honda and they basically said its $600 to diagnose if the problem isnt under warranty, but they need to diagnose first. So basically i run the risk of being charged $600 just to diagnose. Also if it is just low freon is that covered under the warranty since the car is still under 3 years old with minimal mileage? NOt sure how the ffreon could be gone living in SoCal and driving only 10k miles.... crazy to me. Anyways i scheduled the appointment on monday morning, but wanted to check here with what you guys think.

thanks,

Check to see what the driver side temp dial is set at compared to the passenger side temp dial. Let us know what those two sides are set at.

If both are set equal and one side is not blowing cold air, it sounds like a malfunctioning trap door issue.
both were set to low i even set to 59 on both to make sure still same issue. How can i check the trap door? i mean the passenger side isnt blowing really cold air. its just cooler then room temp.

I cannot think of any reason this would not be covered under warranty. If it was a freon or filter issue, it would apply to both sides, as there's just a heat blend door that drives the difference; there's not actually a separate A/C. (And, in any case, a car that new should be years away from needing more refrigerant, barring accident damage. Though if it does need refrigerant, and they can't find a warrantable leak or other problem, you are beyond that particular part of your coverage; that's 2y/24k.)

And $600 to diagnose an A/C issue? Really? A/C is one of those problems that's fairly difficult to DIY (because you don't own the equipment needed), but not a challenge at all for even a fairly-green mechanic, and takes fairly little time.

I think the tech really doesn't want to work on the blend door (in many cars it requires removing the dash to get to it), and this is their way of scaring you off. I'd ask them what non-warranty issue could possibly take hours and hours to diagnose. Alternatively, call Honda Corporate and ask if it's reasonable for them to threaten a $600 diagnosis fee.
