Assuming the photo depicts the type infotainment you have, I believe you need to have a GPS signal.

You can check the compass setting by pressing and holding the day/night button on the bottom left.

 

i believe there is a setting in the menus for displaying the compass heading. i'm not sure off the cuff what it's under, but the menus are fairly well organized. if you take 10-15 minutes to look thru those menus, you'll see a bunch of stuff in there that you didn't know about. that's how i got my home screen set to look much better and configure a couple bells that i didn't know where hiding in there. sorry i don't have more of the detail at hand.

 

I have been all through the menus and couldn’t find the setting. A couple of service reps at the Honda dealer went through them too. They ultimately told me to just Google it! Lol

The imagine showed was that if my friends CRV. She said her car was programmed like that when she got her 2018 car.
My car will not depict the directional indicator even when the car is navigating to a destination.

 

If your vehicle doesn't have the shark fin on the roof, then you don't have a compass.

Your Display does display the cardinal compass direction when receiving a GPS satellite signal. That display location is in the map view dashboard. You can choose left or right side for either direction or elevation.

The compass also is displayed in the Driver Information Interface at your choosing. Voila:

Notably, the hymnal reads that the compass calibration is automatic. However, it does list the process for manual calibration and zone setting.
That procedure did not allow me to enter the process. No idea why but it is functional so no motivation to look further.

And yes, there is a shark in the water:

However all newer CRV’s would have one as they are multifunctional.
Radio, Sirius, GPS and Cellular all use it.
