When I bought my 2025 CRV EXL in September I knew that it didn’t have the garage door opener built into the rear view mirror. I thought I would be able to use my MyQ app on my iPhone with CarPlay to control the garage door but was surprised to find out that a monthly charge would be necessary.
I setup a Shelly Controller and was able to control the garage door using CarPlay but still found it inconvenient to use the app on the infotainment screen.
I ended up installing an illuminated push button switch in one of the blank switch spots next to the Hatch Button on the left side of the dashboard. The switch was wired to a garage door remote and worked great. The remote was secured behind the dash and I didn’t want to have to replace the battery so I used a 12v to 3.3v buck converter to power the remote and the ring light around the switch in the dash. Power was from a fuse tap connected to the accessory fuse slot so the garage door opener and switch light only works when the car is on.
Thought this might help someone else to avoid making monthly payments to control the garage door.
