I took it to mean it'll drain your phone's batter fast having it in wireless mode, while when you have it plugged in for the current non-wireless method it's actually charging your phone instead of depleting the battery. That's all.
That is what I guessed at as well but that is true when a smart phone is actively searching constantly for a signal, etc. Not just when using CarPlay or Android Auto.

LOL and I didn't take the comment as saying it was unique to Car-Play or Android Auto, or even Honda. It is just a fact. I mean, I know often in my old car when I got in my car and was going to be in there for more than a few miles/minutes I'd plug my phone into the car charger to top it up while I was driving.

With the current Car-Play, Android Auto set up you're charging while using your phone. With wireless you'd just be continuing to deplete your phone's battery and depending on the length of your drive you'll probably need to charge it up anyway.

Update:

Frequent CarPlay disconnections forcing me to unplug-replug continue (especially early on in each use) after upgrading my iPhone 6 to an iPhone 8+ in my new CRV. This has been going on since I bought the CRV new in February.

The problem is certainly due to the combination of Honda hardware/software and how it conflicts with iPhone software/networking signals (like using Apple Music or a large library), with Honda hardware suspect of being the main culprit as I recently rented a new Ford for 10 days and had zero disconnects. (I hate Fords, but truth be told, for those 10 days I felt a lot of strange emotions...)

So this is fixable, and will be fun to mention that Ford CarPlay works when I stop by the dealer in a couple weeks.

Anyone notice issues with the iOS11 update? Seems like podcasts lost their rewind/forward button and it kicks you back to the main podcast screen. Also, seems the instrument cluster turn by turn is still not an option.

Wish Apple would get their stuff together...

I do like the lane indicator on which lane(s) to get into on major roads and the speed limit information. It also seems to be more responsive to traffic and almost rivals Waze, but not quite. It's a definite improvement. I do wish the instrument cluster turn by turn would work.

I'd really just like to see an option to disable AUTOPLAY whenever I connect my iPhone or Android phone. Wire or Bluetooth, the car always starts playing music. Can't Honda just give the option in the head unit to DISABLE this???

What exactly starts when you plug your phone? Is it the Music app? Pandora?

My iphone 7 does nothing when i plug it in. I have to touch the CarPlay icon on my head unit to open it. Unless CarPlay was open when i turned off the car last time in this case it opens automatically when i plug my phone back but it does not start playing music.

Depends on what your head unit was playing prior to shutting off the vehicle. If you were connected via BlueTooth and playing music, etc. at start up the head unit will try to return to that point, same with CarPlay...don't use Android Auto so can't comment...if you are not returning to said listening mode you...at least I do...will/should get an error message saying something like the head unit cannot connect, etc.

yeah, this is the way mine operates as well. If I have phone plugged in but listening to Sat. radio a call or text will come thru.

Dear God! This is not Apple’s fault. Use your iPhone in a BMW and everything will work with CarPlay. Use it on a Civic and a lot but not all of your issues will go away. Use it on the CR-V and it’s ****. This is Honda not getting their act together.

I’ve tried to explain multiple times that it isn’t Apple, that as a rule, as the mother of all fruits that allowed car makers to accept foreign tech such as CarPlay and android auto, was that these software would give some freedom to operate specific components. Audio is one of them. Input is another, such as to disable keyboards during motion. And so on. All of these things allow carmakers to screw the fa up, and as you can imagine, they did. Besides, Honda chose the slowest crappiest hardware, all of which are contributors to the problem.

To confuse you a little more, CarPlay is running on Android in your car.

I created a new thread about this, but since I'm new, it's waiting approval by a moderator.

Vehicle: 2017 Honda CR-V EX-L w/o Navigation (Purchased 3 Weeks Ago)
Phone: iPhone 7 Plus
iOS: 11.0.2

Like many others, my problem with CarPlay was the ringer volume. I'd be driving along listening to SirusXM radio or perhaps Pandora, when a call would come in. The ringer would scare the crap out of me and my passengers. As the ringer went off, I would adjust the volume down. Calls coming in later during that drive would ring at the new lower level.

On the next trip, I'd plug the phone in and get on my way. New incoming call...BOOM, scared again. So, the ringer volume wasn't sticking from trip to trip. It would reset each time. Very frustrating.

Here is the possible fix...

I started the car and plugged the phone in to start CarPlay. After CarPlay was established, I picked up the PHONE and went to Settings > Sounds & Haptics. I simply touched the Ringer volume slider and the ringer came through the car speakers scaring me again. The ringer volume slider was already on the low end. I slid it louder and softer, and the ring coming through the speakers was the same constant loud ringer. I touched the ringer volume slider again to make the ringer go off and turned down the volume on the CR-V headunit to bring down the ringer to a volume level I liked. I touched the volume slider again on the phone moving it louder and softer. It did NOT effect the volume of the ringer coming through the car speakers. It came out as soft as I set it when I turned down the volume control on the car.

I disconnected the phone. Turned the car off. Locked it. I then unlocked the car, started it up and connected the phone again. CarPlay came up. I had a friend call me. The ringer volume that I had previously set stayed.

Someone else, please confirm that this works for you.

Adam

With phone plugged in and Car Play active, I just asked Siri some questions where she'd have to talk long enough (I would ask her what the weather was, what time it was in such and such a country, etc.) so that I could adjust the volume with the steering wheel volume input. Once I got her volume right, the volume when she came on to talk during Nav was right too. Pretty simple.

False. False. False. Even though it says “guidance volume” with Siri or messages, the base volume of that is already higher than the base volume of the Navi. So your “11” on Siri is higher than the “11” on Apple Maps. Pretty Simple.

The spreading of all this false information that you bring across as facts, when it’s just your poor perception is what will never get Honda to fix this crap. Do a little more due diligence before the continued spread of false information regarding this topic.

Yeah, you're right. I actually didn't get it to work nicely in about two minutes, and my post was all part of an elaborate plan to spread false information. I am employed by both Honda and Apple to comb forums and spread their propaganda. I had made a very nice career out of it until you foiled me. Touche. Well done.

Yeah well, you should find a different job. You’re not good at it. You may have a different firmware and you’re trying to solve a problem that your car doesn’t have. Still, you’re spreading false information. If you have the same firmware of the early release cars, you’re also spreading false information.

No need for hash word. If he was wrong , just need to point it out. we just here for the infomation

I don’t disagree. But words like “pretty simple” makes it seem like we’re all a bunch of dumbasses who haven’t figured it out in a 10 page thread and a year later. There is ZERO things a user can do to fix this issue. It’s 100% contained within Honda’s infotainment system. Not us. Not Apple.

We can try and create "work arounds" that work "more or less" for us but generally don't do much.
Recently I've had problems with Carplay not reconnecting...I'll be driving and using carplay which is working just fine...I shut off the car, leaving the iphone 7+ connected, and run and errand, etc, time matters not. Start up the car and while what I was listening to, music/podcast/audible/etc, starts right up where I left off the screen, '17 EX, is black and I get a message on the dash saying to reconnect the iphone. I unplug/plug in the phone and all is well. It doesn't happen all the time, sporadically...weird...

Also while using imaps, voice directions, and listening to an Audible book via carplay, Audible will pause for the next verbal direction and pick up where it left off at the end of the direction. But while listening to music via carplay, iphone playlist and using directions no such luck...both directions and music playing at the same time.

I suspect this is an Apple problem or perhaps both Apple and Honda but more likely Apple getting the software right for use in factory systems.

I've not tried bluetooth since upgrading to the latest ios 11.?.?
Overall though I really like carplay and imaps works just fine though overall Google maps still has it beat but the margin is less...Waze is OK but they are really, imo, all very similar...just differ in the details which are more pertinent to some but not others...depends on needs.

OK, I see from my original post how that may have been triggering. That was not my intent. My intent only was to say that the way I got it to work was pretty simple - not that you or other people were idiots for not getting it to work. I apologize for that.

I'm off to look for another job...

;)
