I agree with, and saved this post from sirwired:

Speaking for myself, I'm glad the driver aids fail when covered in frozen precipitation. Those aids are built for normal conditions; the radar has no idea that roads are a slick mess, and will happily maintain following distance as if they are, at worst, wet. That'd totally be a false sense of security.

Your following distance when there's junk on the ground should be far longer than anything the radar is gonna warn you about. And if CMBS were to kick in because it thinks you are about to hit somebody? I'm pretty sure it'd be far too late for that to actually help much.

I have had trouble driving in snowy conditions ever since we bought the 2017 CR-V. Found out on this blog that the problem might be solved with a software update. TSB 18-006; it worked! It's like a new vehicle!
Thanks for reporting!

AWD is on all the time on the CRV
It is? I thought it was only on demand....if the system detected slippage.
Both statements are correct.

@Nuke meant that is not 'switchable' as many other systems are designed. EG, the first-gen RAV had a 'lock' switch for the coupling between F&R.

Honda's system is 'always' on, ready to provide rear traction if there is a difference in F&R axle speeds. No way to 'switch it off' (short of removing the driveshaft).

On the newer cars (Gen4 & Gen5) there is an electrical clutch that engages the rear diff when the foot brake is released, to mitigate any delay in engagement.
