Hope it still chooses for you even with the heat or AC on or will that prevent it from going into EV in normal mode? Was wondering because if you try to just drive in EV mode with the heat or ac on it will say you can’t cabin is being heated etc.
As at @JB in AZ says, the most efficient way to drive the Hybrid is just to put the car in Drive, and drive. The car is not an HEV, it is a MHEV. It is not meant to be driven solely in EV mode, it has a very small battery which serves as a buffer to temporarily store energy. All power comes from the ICE.

I am a new CRV hybrid owner and I believe you can run the A/C in EV mode. I've noticed at a stop light or when we first 'start' the vehicle, the A/C is running and cold even with the ICE not running. Of course, somebody correct me if I'm wrong here.

If you're looking for the best fuel economy, put it in eco and just let the vehicle do its thing. Sometimes, if I'm just crossing the street to go to the store I'll put it in EV mode while driving through our subdivision. Other than that though, it is pretty aggravating driving and playing with the EV mode because you have next to no acceleration without it turning on the ICE. Also, I'm sure it would be irritating to the vehicles behind you while accelerating in EV mode. I've noticed it will usually kick into EV mode during moderate braking and it receives a good charge...usually coming to a stop light or exiting the freeway.
Agree with most of what you say, but don’t believe there is any material benefit to running in ECO mode. It just dampens the throttle response causing you to push the pedal harder to achieve the desired acceleration/speed. The only potential fuel saving comes from the fact that it also reduces the performance of the climate system which seems like an unnecessary trade off for whatever minuscule savings you might achieve.
