Just had the fuel pump recall service done today, and also suddenly experiencing cranking issues. Prior it started immediately, now cranks for several seconds before starting. Not happy.
A lot of people who have had the recall done complain about the same thing but it seems to disappear after a few days.

My guess is it takes a few vehicle trips to clear any residual air in the fuel lines or it takes the fuel pump a few cycles to settle in to normal fast start fuel flow.

Definitely something to keep an eye on, and if this is normal, it really should be included in post recall notes to the owner when returning the vehicle to them... because with these modern vehicles.. it appears from many forum discussions that if you leave an owner guessing about something they are going to guess wrong or have an anxiety attack over any change in vehicle behaviors.

I received a recall notice May 2021 and had my June appointment for a CRV fuel pump replacement placed on indefinite hold . I learned from Honda Canada that the pump is on back order with no date in sight. Is anyone else experiencing this delay or have any insight into the problem. I’m hesitant to drive the vehicle till this gets fixed.

I would keep driving the vehicle. On this site I haven't noticed any fuel pump failures yet it is a small but diverse sample.

My 2010 Equinox had a fuel pump recall. I made an appointment for the recall and after I brought it in then they told me I had to wait 2 weeks for the pump to come in. The pump came in 2 weeks bot the rail took another week.

I haven't gotten a notice for my 2018 LX. Haven't checked if the part is the same on the 1.5 and the 2.4 or maybe my fuel pump is not part of the recall.

Well, it's not just select CRVs that have had their VINs flagged for the recall, it is also impacting other models in the Honda lineup that also use Denso fuel pumps. And.. as we now know.. it was not just Honda that Denso screwed over here.... because Toyota (which by the way owns a 25% share in Denso) is also facing large recall efforts on fuel pumps for the same issue.

So I am sure that Denso is scrambling to produce replacement parts and deliver them to the major brands affected by their poor production quality. Honda alone, per the NHTSA documents on the recall notice, requires 36 different part numbers across their model lineup to address this recall.

Honda has stipulated that it is OK to continue driving your vehicle. The recall is a forward looking interdiction of "possible" failures later on due to solvent damage to the impeller during production. In other words.. this being fuel related... it falls immediately into the "abundance of caution" zone for replacing now to prevent possible fuel leak related hazards later.

Indeed - people wrongly go into panic mode, thinking that a recall suddenly means "no more driving".

Thanks for everyone’s input. It’s good to see people getting the pump replaced. I don’t know if it’s available for replacement yet in Canada . I might take some time. FYI, Honda doesn’t say it’s safe to drive the vehicle in the recall letter. The letter states that the fuel pump “may seize increasing the risk of a crash”. It’s with this caution in mind that I won’t be doing any road trips till this is fixed. In my view, I don’t think the recall letter should have gone out directing people to book appointments as I tried to do when the parts are unavailable

The letter does not state that it is safe to drive, but both Honda and Dealers ARE telling owners who ask... yes.. it is safe to continue driving. If it was not.. then the letter would absolutely state to NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE until repaired.

Note: there have, to date, been ZERO reports of actual fuel pump failures in the field. The recall is a forward looking precautionary replacement since Honda and Denso know there was an issue with solvent cleaning of the impellers in some fuel pump batches and believe that could cause premature impeller failure, but cannot exactly determine which pumps within a batch might fail later on and which will be fine .

But.. your vehicle, your choice. Park it and wait if that makes you feel better.

Just to follow up (see my previous posts on this thread), I finally had the pump replaced last Monday. The swap was performed without incident, and my very sensitive nose detected NO gasoline odor afterward. It might have helped in that respect that I brought the car in with less than 1/4 tank of gas. Performance was also strong and steady, after about 10 miles of driving, although any perceived hesitancy in the first 10 might have been the result of me getting in synch with the car again, after suffering with another model for half a day. I will give kudos to the dealer for this work; HOWEVER, I had also made an online appointment for a dealer shuttle ride the 5 miles back to my house, and received an appointment confirmation from them via e-mail, but when I dropped my car off, the service rep informed me that they had not been providing shuttle service since April 2020, due to Covid restrictions. When I wondered aloud why then they were confirming shuttle appointments online, I was met with a blank, "that's not my department" stare. Since I had a meeting to get to around lunchtime, they did offer me a loaner car, which I happily accepted, but when I got into it, I found that it reeked of nicotine (see previous olfactory reference above), even though their loaner contract emphasizes "No Smoking, No Pets," so I asked for another. The second one had a "lived-in" smell, but at least it wasn't nicotine, although the interior looked like someone had taken their kids on a cross-country trip (crumbs in the seat seams, chocolate and coffee smears on the upholstery; half-empty water bottle under the seat), and no one bothered to clean it after the car was returned. Luckily, I had enough time before our meeting to vacuum up the crumbs and wet wipe the upholstery. On the plus side, I learned that a Civic 2-door trunk will hold a folded wheelchair and accessories without lowering the rear seatbacks, and the somewhat Spartan trim level still provided ample acceleration and gas mileage. On the minus side, I felt like I was driving blind, after spending the last 18 months in a CR-V Touring model. This Civic had no adaptive cruise control, no blind spot warning, no rear cross traffic warning, and a level of exterior visibility approaching that of a submarine. I've driven some pretty Spartan vehicles in my 60 driving years, so it was interesting to discover how much I have come to rely on the electronic safety features that have filtered down to my price level vehicle in the last 5 or so.

quicksilver,
You make some good points about the electronic safety features we now can have and mis if not available

I had a fuel pump replaced as a recall on my 2010 Equinox awhile ago and had the same thing happen and they even left the windows open. The smell went away in a couple of days.
Needed an oil change so I figured I’d get the recall done the same day. Service manager told me to bring with a quarter tank of gas to or less. They were efficient but now the car has a fuel smell. As soon as I got in the car I noticed it and asked the service manager about it. He came out to verify, said that his techs probably should have left the windows open, but it should go away in 3 days to a week. I drove for a while with the windows down but it didn’t help much. Anyone else experience something similar?
I also went in to have an oil change and fuel pump replaced just this Tuesday and I am experiencing EXACTLY the same problem. I called the dealership they said it's normal and I called Honda and the rep told me it's normal according to a message he found in the service bulletin. Yes, it may be normal but not acceptable since gas fumes are toxic and carcinogenic. I use my CRV not only for work but also to pick up and drop off my 3-year-old at daycare. I felt like I am putting him in a mobile gas chamber. I had the window open whenever I could but that did not seem to help.

Seems they are being truthful.

You could temporarily use an air freshner of some sort?

I agree the gas smell on my Equinox was bad and I know my wife would be able to drive in my Nox until the smell went away. She has breathing problems but she would ride in our other vehicle. I didn't even bother going back to the service writers to complain as the GM dealer near me has the worst service department I've ever dealt with.

What was the fuel level of your CRV? I didn't get the recall letter but from what I have read here they didn't suggest to have below a quarter of a tank of gas before replacing the fuel pump? Maybe the dealers will get complaints and mention it when customers make appointments for the recall. This would be useless with on line appointments.

Hello my car had this recall done on Wednesday and ever since it is taking much longer to start when I turn the key. 2 to 5 seconds. I see some others have had this issue. Did you manage to get it sorted. ? mine is a 19 plate crv. It's going back to the garage on Monday. Thanks

Unless you were told by Honda not to drive your Honda, keep driving it.

Hi and welcome.

What trim/model/gearbox is your car?

Thanks.

CR-V SE I-VTEC 4X2
Manual, 6 gear box

Not sure of trim sorry.
SE is your trim :)

Anyway, it might simply be the case that the remaining fuel (with a bit of tank crud) is in the pipes and will get flushed out as your refill.

Failing that, as the car is under warranty, take it back and ask them to start up a similar car that has had the work done / let them remedy this.

I own a 2019 CRV Touring and was made aware of the fuel pump recall when I called to schedule an oil change and to have the air vent blending motor replaced. They did the oil change and replaced the air motor but did not have the fuel pump in stock. They had me come back 2 days later because there was another faulty air vent motor that was bad and they had to remove my entire dash. While my vechile was there for service, the fuel parts came in. I had the recall done and have brought my vehicle back 2 times after the "repair". Now when I start my vehicle, it turns over anywhere from 2 seconds to 5 seconds before it starts. Both times I was assured that there is no problem. I disagree. I purchased this vehicle new off the lot and had no issues like this until Honda did this fuel pump recall. I will be taking it back on Monday and speaking with a manager. Not only does the vehicle take longer to start, it has a rough idle and pedal lag. I understand this was a necessary fix but now my vehicle runs and starts terrible. Has anyone had any of the same issues?
Thanks
Hello did you have any luck getting your car sorted. I'm having the exact same problem ?q

Hello can I ask, did you get this sorted? I'm having the same problem.
