Hey everyone,
I recently picked up and restoring a 2001 Honda CRV EX AWD.
This is now the only issue with the car at the moment. When going through the gears (Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, 1, and 2) where the lever locks into place for each gear, the light in the dash indicating which gear doesn’t light up.
This is specifically annoying because if the lever doesn’t engage in the “Park” position correctly, it messes up something and pushing down on the break doesn’t engage the park interlock, and you cannot shift the lever into any other gear unless you manually push down the park release lever. It will also not start if the gear isn’t recognizing it’s in Park either. When starting, turning the key to accessory, if the indicator light is not on for the “P” symbol, the engine won’t start. It will start in neutral though.
From what I’ve found playing around and removing the cover from steering wheel, I’ve noticed where the lever locks in place seems to be a couple millimeters out for where it’s supposed to engage each gear. So the lights for each drive option are off in each position, but if slightly move the select lever a couple millimeters it will turn the indicator light on.
If anyone has any info or knowledge of how to adjust the lever select gear would be greatly appreciated!
Hopefully I explained the issue well.
