I have removed the cover plate around gear shift and checked bulb and appears okay and not blown. This is a very tiny bulb(T5 I believe) and was wondering if anybody knows what number fuse I can check to see if this has blown?

That bulb is powered from one of the instrument/guage panel lamp dimming circuits. Other lamps on that same circuit is ECON switch and the illumination lamps on the steering wheel. So if those lamps are working than you have an issue with a connector, wiring or your bulb is burned out.
