Ignition/Starting Issues

2007 EX-L, 260k miles. An issue with my ignition popped up recently. When I turn the key to "ON", the indicator lights illuminate as usual. When I turn it to "START", I don't hear anything happen, no engine turning over, no click of the starter. I turn it back to "ACCESSORY", then to "START", and 8/10 times the car starts. The other 2/10 times I have to repeat turning to "ACCESSORY" two or three times.

The battery and alternator were replaced just shy of a year ago. The starter was replaced about 6 months ago.
Battery and alternator would have absolutely nothing to do with it. Usually. It could be the neutral safety switch. Also called the range selector switch. Next time it doesn't start immediately put it in neutral and see if it starts in neutral. Also, it could easily be the starter. If you could tap the starter or have someone else do it while you're returning the key, that would help you determine if that's the cause.
