Lane departure issue?

Now I noticed that lane departure only operates when cruise control is activated (not set) Is this how it always operated, or is this an issue?

Again, I'm referring to lane departure (white lines on dash display) not lane assist (green lines on dash display)

It is technically the "Road Departure Mitigation System" (which is separate from the LKAS or Lane Keeping Assist System) and I found it to be very annoying. I set mine to "Warning Only" and never gave it a second thought.
