Other engines that work?

2007 CR-V, 2.4, AWD, auto.
I believe a 2007-2009 engine would be a direct drop in replacement, but my local self-serve junkyard has no match. They do have several Accord's within those years with the 2.4. I get mixed opinions on the compatibility, so looking for verification. Will this engine work if I use the long block (block and head), with everything else from my original?
Stick to the CR-V's K24Z1 engine, which was used in the 2007-2009 models. It was specific to the CR-V. There are many K-series variations, and your ECU will not work properly with anything other than the K24Z1 engine. There were so many on the road, you should have no problem finding a replacement, even if you have to get one shipped in, or drive a bit to find one. (I'm in a larger metropolitan area, and can find a couple dozen salvage CR-Vs within a 50 mile radius.)

The other K-series engines may use different sensors, plus their i-VTEC systems are different. The engines also have internal differences, and the ECUs are mapped to a specific engine. Physically they will fit, but short of replacing wiring harnesses and changing ECUs, then hoping it all works, it's not worth the effort. Custom builds are one thing, but if you're looking to get your CR-V back on the road, find the K24Z1.

K24Z1, as I mentioned, is unique to the 2007-2009 CR-V. The Element uses a K24A4 (earlier models) or K24A8 (later models). 2002-2006 CR-Vs use the K24A1. Not interchangeable.
