First time trying something like this, so I went ahead with rear first.

Very Happy with the result.

Then moved to front lower trim.

Weather/time was not very good for this one and I didn't do a good job as I did in the rear. But since it's a low part, it turned out ok. Mistakes are not very visible.

Damage so far..
Can and tape 12$
Time 4 to 5 hours.

Still work in progress, and planning to do the rear lower trim and the front chrome, including the emblem (still on the wall with the chrome part as it will be a real pain with masking).

May be next month. Will update the post with pictures.

Leaving the side chrome and wheels as it is. I'm good with those and prefer changing the rims than dipping them.

Good day.

First thing I did when I brought my new 2021 home.... debadged the crap out of it hahaha!

to OP; how did you prep the surface of the painted areas? Thought about plasti-dipping, but was unsure because I was hoping to find black chrome accents instead.

Tell me about it. GM Design department where I used to work, received those emblems and badges from suppliers to check for quality, before putting them on the cars. We used to scrap thousands of them, every few years.

Honda charges good amount as well.

This was an easy one. The black edition CR-V is almost here.

My Plasti dip can is empty.. need to buy a new one to finish the other parts now.

The only things I bought are two cans of regular Plasti dip paint and one blue masking tape. After finishing all the parts I wanted to de-chrome, I'm still left with almost one full can. Total expenses 15$.

Plasti dip from Walmart

I like the idea of the running board, but could never find the design I really wanted under my budget. Left the idea now, as my 4 year old kid can manage to get inside by himself.

I'm on double mind about the window surround chrome and the wheels. Those are the only external parts with some bit of chrome left in them.
You can have the chrome window trim wrapped in flat black. I've had great results in the past.

I don't think it's legal anywhere in the world.
But Honda offers darker inserts inside the headlights for some markets (in the black edition CR-V). That would have been my preference if they offered it here in US market.

Even the license plate stands out a lot more now. California has an option to go for yellow lettering on black license plates (50$ yearly fee). I think it will be an overkill in the humble CRV.

Once in a while, I take it to a Costco car wash. And that doesn't clean the rear and the lower areas that good. So hopefully the Plasti dip stays on.

Also I have recently added a roof mount bike rack, which will further block the automated washing brushes.

Also I have snow mountain trip planned this weekend and a San Diego trip the following weekend. So the car is going to be covered in lot of mud for a long time now.

In short, I won't be washing it any time soon. ;)

Still I'll keep a bottle of Plasti dip handy to finish the remaining parts and to repair any damages, if it happens.

Love how it's coming out (I hate chrome).

Very nice! I used to really enjoy modifying the looks of my cars. I remember spray painting the grill black on a 63 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 in high school. Yes I am getting old!

Not my exact car, but same year model:

Plasti dip is holding good after 5 months usage.
No particular care given. Even survived two automated machine washes.
Black theme really comes alive on Sand Dunes.

hhhm interesting, I might have to give this a go when I get some annual leave from work :)
maybe have tints and running boards install to complete the look? that's what I am thinking to do on mine.

do you mind listing the parts use to dechrome your parts? and link to online store?
I'm based on the other side of the world to you so i will look up locally..

Back after mountain, valley, lake, and temperatures from 60 to 105, all in three days. Didn't face much water other than some occasional splashes to clean the bugs. Yet to give it a proper bath.

Chrome vs dipped. Spot the difference. 😊

Ran out of sunlight while finishing up and didn't do a good job of peeling the overspread.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and your likes. I have taken inspiration from multiple owners here to bring it to what it is today.
But I had to let it go and my project had ended very close to what I wanted, when I started two years back. Hope the next owner takes care of it as good as I did till date.

Here is a weird perspective photo as a final thanks.

i was about to post a thread if the bumper trims are removable without taking the bumper down so I could do what you just did with them haha. question did you use some kind of primer or just straight up paint the bumper trims? also I know its a while back but do you remember the type of plastidip you used? I was thinking of doing chrome delete, but I wanted the chrome parts to be gloss black, Im not sure if it would be a good idea to DIY it or a shop
