Problem !

Hello ! I’m a new member to the CRV owners club and got some problems with my CRV :)
I have a 2011 Honda CR-V, I got in the car one day and I turn it on and I get a flashing message saying “ Check Fuel Cap”. After doing some research, some people said that the purge valve is bad and it needs to be replaced, so I buy a brand new purge valve, after replacing it and clearing old codes, the next morning I get in the car and the message came back saying “ Check Fuel Cap” and also I keep smelling gas by the rear driver side tire, does anyone know what could be the problem ???
Thank you !
Since you eliminated the #1 issue with the EVAP system (it would have failed eventually--both of ours failed on our '09s), and smell gas in the rear, as a general rule I would start by checking the evap system for any cut or loose hoses, and also check to be certain there are no leaks in the fuel filler tube itself, as that would also be detected as a "leak." (It's metal, but connects to the tank with a rubber section.)

Check the manual at the top of this 3rd Gen section. Somewhere around page 11-306 you'll find the beginning of the EVAP troubleshooting section. Around page 11-320, you'll find the entire diagnostic for code P0457 and around 11-322, for P0497. If the tubing or wiring all looks good, it's possible that the vent shut valve is defective. The manual gives ways to test all of these components. Best to follow their procedure so you don't throw more parts at it.

Note that the manual at the top of this section is for the 2007-2009 CR-V, not 2010-2011 which used the K24Z6 engine, so there is an entire section for the K24Z6 engine in my manual. I just compared both sections though and the troubleshooting procedures seem to be mostly identical, at least enough to find where your problem lies. The components are all in the exact same location on both engines (obviously the fuel system in the rear will not change).
