If it is just for inspection, remove the valve cover instead. You're probably due for a valve clearance adjustment anyhow, and this will give you a very accurate assessment of the condition and cleanliness of the internals.

 

It wouldn't hurt to adjust the valves. How long do you think it would take to remove the valve cover and adjust the valves?

 

I had a 1995 Toyota Tacoma it was full of sludge. I always check a new used car for sludge now.

I pulled the valve cover. It wasn't exactly what you would call CLEAN. I wiped as much of the grime out of the valve cover as I could.

That bring me back to the oil pan. I sure would like to get a look at the oil pickup screen. How big a job is removing a oil pan on a 2008 CR-V?
