Hi, this is my first post. I own a 2018 EX-L CR-V, bought in Canada. I'm the original owner and am very happy with the vehicle.
Recently however, while giving it a thorough wash & wax, I noticed rust forming on the INSIDE of the doors, near the bottom where the metal portion of the door terminates with a folded-over edge. Nothing is visible from the outside, and to date there is no perforation or any sign of impending perforation. The issue is present on the driver side rear door where it is worse, then on the driver door. The other 2 doors are fine.
When I bought the vehicle, I paid $1000 for an electronic rust prevention module that connects to the battery and warrants the vehicle for rust protection for 10 years.
I took the CR-V to the body shop for remedial action, thinking this is totally unacceptable on a vehicle that a) is only 4 years old, b) has been well taken care of and has been in no collision or accident, and c) has an expensive rust warranty.
I was turned down and told this was not covered as it was not on an outside painted surface. I was told I would have to wait (probably years I’m guessing) for the rust issue to worsen to the point where it would perforate the panel and only then would they address it. How inefficient.
Has anyone had similar issues? Is there a problem with corrosion at the bottom of these doors? Is there some hidden warranty that might apply? Any advice on how to push the dealership or the company itself to address this at no cost to me?
Thanks, any advice / information would be appreciated.
