Strut Recommendations

In 2015, I replaced all 4 struts on our 2008 CRV with KYB. Really made a difference. That was 8 years ago, though. Some forum members have reported that KYB equipment of today does not measure up to KYB equipment from years past.

A few suggestions, if you will, if the replacement is DIY.

1. Safety first. Be sure to securely mount vehicle on jack stands, never the jack by itself. Gravity @ 32 feet per second per second will always win out regardless of where your body is located.

2. Purchase an 1/2" impact wrench. Will make removal easier.

3. Complete struts, regardless of the brand you purchase, will make the replacement job much easier than if you separate the units to put in new shock tubes. May cost more, but will you'll make up the difference in less time without a vehicle.

4. Replace rear sway bar bushings at the same time, as these have the same wear-and-tear as the shocks. Plus you've already done half of the labor taking the wheels off for the strut removal.

5. If you can financially afford it, do all 4 struts with attendant suspension parts at the same time. All the suspension parts have had the same wear-and-tear. Doing all 4 corners at once will take more time, but will save you having to do the fronts at a later date.

6. Some forum members have exchanged the rigid rear camber/caster control arm with adjustable rear camber/caster control arms. Again, much easier to do at the time of replacing struts.

7. Whether 2 or 4 corner replacement, get an alignment done afterwards.

Good luck. Keep us posted.
