My 2013 crv ex-l has 130k miles. I'm told I should have the timing belt changed, is this something that's necessary. I plan on keeping this car for a while longer.

For your own peace of mind, might consider finding an independent mechanic / garage that is accustomed to working on Hondas. Spend the money & have them do a thorough inspection of the engine, including the condition of the timing chain.
If not the original owner, might also think of replacing all the fluids so that you have a baseline from which to program all future maintenance. Motor oil & brake fluid can be generic brands so long as they meet Honda specifications. Transmission & rear differential fluids should be Honda-branded fluids as these have specific additive packages unique to Honda.
