Looking at a set of OEM alloys for my daughter's 2007 CRV. These will be for snow tires. The rims are missing the TPMS sensors. Can a standard valve stem be put in instead of the sensors? I'm not terribly concerned about the TPMS system working since the sensors currently on the car are dead anyway. She takes the car in for pressure checks regularly. If I do need sensors, is there a recommended set that won't break the bank and actually work correctly? I keep reading about people having trouble programming them.

i believe many folks run winter tires with no sensors....they just live with the warning light.

you should be fine. as far as the rubber stems fitting in the holes correctly, i'm not sure about that.

We are already living with the warning light. I just need a path to get air into the tire and currently there are no valve stems or sensors. Do you think the "sensorless" stems posted above will fit the rims? Amazon thinks so, but I believe they are meant as replacements for the stems on sensors. I assume the sensor just hangs off the stem and has nothing to do with filing the tire with air. I've never examined one, so I'm just guessing at this point.

I bought four Denso sensors and never had an issue. I did program them myself with an Autel scanner--it's not difficult if the shop knows what they are doing. Basically all that needs to be done is to program the sensor's serial number into the CR-V's ECU, using the OBD-II port. Cheaper sensors I don't really trust. I got them from Rock Auto.

Note there are different sensors for the steel wheels and the alloy wheels. $31.79 each plus shipping isn't too bad--I think I paid closer to $40 for the same sensors a couple of years ago.

I'm in the opposite situation where I'm thinking of mounting all-terrain tires on some Acura TSX wheels that I have on hand. I want to see if the sensors will fit those wheels. (I still have the old sensors I replaced, as spares.)
