Our 2024 CRV Hybrid had just over 11,000 miles when we went in for our first oil change and I had seen the A16 service code pop up before this. Of course the rear differential lube change was suggested and the dealer charged up just at $148 US dollars. Seems quite high after reading here that the rear differential lube change is just two bottles of lube, I may look at changing the lube myself in the future.
The motor oil change and tire rotation was covered but it makes a consumer feel like the rear differential lube change was just a ADM(added dealer margin, I. E. profit) move. I expect Honda reimburses the dealer for the motor oil & tire rotation, albeit a lower rate.
I've owned at least two dozen automobiles/trucks in my life and never had a differential lube change in less than 12K miles. 30K miles has been the minimum, not sure what Honda and/or its dealers are doing. Has anyone investigated a class action suit for this behavior of Honda/dealers?
While the differential does have a differential gear in the housing. It also contains a torque coupling consisting of a clutch pack, electric hydraulic pump and a pressure control system. Honda discovered that break in debris could cause problems for the pressure control system so they recommend an earlier fluid change. After that the recommend fluid change is every 60k miles
