How much gas is left after the Gas Light comes on? Any ideas? And perhaps a rough estimation of how many miles till the car is totally immobile? (For the 2003)

You can't depend on it as I found out the hard way. Way back in 2000, I got one of the first Ford Escapes made and according to the fuel capacity and filling it up a few times, I figured I had two gallons of fuel left when the light came on and I was going to use it based on my fuel mileage. However, it ran out and I had to push a new car down Main Street to a gas station. The tank had gas in it but the fuel pickup didn't go to the bottom of the tank and I ran out of usable gas.
It's about 2 gallons. But you need to leave at least a 1/2 gallon in there or you can risk damaging the fuel pump. The fuel cools the pump. When miles to empty says 0, you have at most 1 gallon left. Running below that and the fuel pump might not get cooled adequately.

2018 Honda CRV. I had a brain freeze and forgot to buy gas before heading to work. Gas light is on. My drive home is about 24 miles. Do I need to go to that seedy station and get some gas, or will I make it home? I know this tank is smaller than most SUVs.

Is it worth risking running out of fuel?
Cant imagine any advantage in risking it if anyone drives on vapours

Best part of running low on gas all the time, you get to be pissed at the cost of a new fuel pump long before you should have to

Running on empty is just asking for trouble. Like never checking tire pressures, or the oil. Mechanics love people like this. They keep business humming along briskly. Even Forrest Gump knows how bad a habit it is.

I always recall the first time someone I knew ran out of diesel and thought walking to the petrol station and filling up like you do with a petrol would work.
