Capacity-Power Steering

Was going to replace the power steering fluid in my 06 using the turkey baster method several times and thought I'd check the owners manual too check the capacity was so I could buy 2-3x times the amount (it's less than $3 bottle) for the swap. Guess what? The owners manual doesn't mention anywhere (including the fluid capacity chart) what the capacity is. Any help out there? Thanks

The capacity is surprisingly (to me at least) small. I can't remember what I finally saw that it was, but I bought 2 of the 12oz bottles and figure it will be plenty. Sorry I can't remember the exact number now. Maybe try searching on "steering" and see what comes up. That is probably what I did.

Thanks didn't find anything so I went to the local dealer and asked the parts guy. He said two 12 oz. bottles would be plenty for what I wanted to do. Came home and removed as much as I could (apx. 7 oz.) and refilled it. I'll do that a couple more times. Cost apx. $8.00, service dept wanted $79.00 for their flush.

Yes, what @udraft says. Emptying the reservoir only gets out some of the fluid. If you follow the service manual procedure, it empties most of the fluid, upon which you add the new fluid to a nearly empty system. You essentially disconnect the return hose and turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock a few times with the engine at idle until the fluid stops coming out. You also drain out the reservoir.

There will still be a little fluid in the system, but not as much. Honda's service manual does say to repeat this if the fluid is still discolored.
