Good day all, i know that there could be alot of threads started of the same issue.....regardless someone maeby to point me in the right direction.

I accuired the crv in december last year, it did have n tranny issue. The symptems was when u put it in drive it would take 1st and second then kick back to neutral. U jave to switch of the car and start it again then it will do exactly the same. Previous owner had the torq converter rebuild in 2021. When i spoke the previous owner i found out that they used dex ii..........
I did some research with the honda dealers here locally where i live and OEM tranny fluid was like 40 usd for 1L.....way expensive......which made me dig deeper on the interballs....come to find out that castrol made dexron 6 that was compatible with the tranny. Anyways did the fluid swop, drove the car for about 20kms and in that time had to switch off and start the car more than 20 times but it finally came right.....3000km's later the tranny acted up again but is way worse....it all started when it changed to 3rd gear where it would slip, then it only 2 gears....then 2md gear would slip aswell. All this happened during the course of 2days....
When u put into drive front wheels will only shake but no forward movement. Reverse works only for a little while then its only slipping. I checked all selonoids and everyone worked like it should. Tranny fluid is also still clean with no burned smell?
I am at worlds end with this one.
Btw the crv has 283000km on it.
I got a feeling the tranny is done for but then again i also suspect the torq converter.........

Here is the kicker i bought a whole 1996 crv a japenese import for real cheap, has 170 000 km on the clock, crv is useless in our country(south africa)as it is a Lesotho car and to register it here would cost way to much.was thinking to do a tranny swop.......or should a just first try to use the torq converter from the 1996 tranny?

I don’t know what a Lesotho car is or why someone would import a car they can’t register but that’s besides the point.

why mess around? Change out the whole transmission. Buy the correct fluid this time. It is cheaper than another transmission.

No such thing as one size fits all "COMPATIBLE " Transmission fluid. There is either the correct factory fill fluid or not. So if the said company you get the transmission fluid from is not the one that directly supplys that fluid to the factory that builds the transmission, then they are lying.

Always ask those fluid makers to prove that Honda has given their direct approval to use that fluid. I could sell my own stirred up mess of transmission fluid and say everyone approves it too. Its just advertising and saying yeah use it, they just don't add at your own risk.
