2010 EX-L Rear Strut Installation Help

Hi
I am replacing my rear struts with MacPherson quick struts. I was able to remove the struts without much hassle. While installing, I cannot get the hole in the shock to line up with the holes in the lower trailing arm. I followed the procedure in the service manual for jacking up the lower trailing arm but no luck. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
I already checked that the new quick struts match the old one.
To make matters worse, I can't install the old one. I am obviously doing something wrong, I just don't know what.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have the trailing arm jacked up way too high.

Vehicle should be supported NOT on the trailing arm. Aka jack stands with both back wheels off the ground equally. Let the trailing arm hang them use the jack to raise the trailing arm until it lines up.

The service manual applies when using a proper hoist. Anytime your doing suspension work the vehicle needs to be supported by jack points on both sides so both wheels are off the ground and the vehicle is safely supported.

For future diy rear strut installers, the pics in the original post shows the trailing arm jacked up with a piece of wood below it. When I re-installed my rear struts, after bolting the top of the strut assembly to the body and with nothing jacking up the trailing arm, I then had to apply some downward pressure onto the lower trailing arm(via my helper's foot and body weight, on each brake rotor center hub) . The trailing arm is under pressure from the bushing and moves upwards when the strut is removed, so you have to press it down slightly to get that mounting hole re-aligned, with the strut bolt hole; just enough downward force to get that bolt in and not overly much where you would cause damage to the brake lines.
