They did a video of it over here.

http://www.9thgencivic.com/forum/audio-video-navigation/161002-how-hdmi-while-moving-no-ebrake.html

Connect anything to the HDMI and start it playing or mirroring
Press and hold the Eject button the power button and the home button to bring up the diagnostic screen
Press on the Detail Information and settings selection on the screen, its the bottom one
Press and hold the Menu button
Press the Vehicle Model Information on the screen
Press the DD VSP Error area on the screen, in the lower right
On the next screen press where it says "on" and then press where it says "off" to disable that error
Press the Back button ONCE an turn SNAPSHOT.
then go to main menu

They said the SNAPSHOT selection should save the option so that it doesnt reset itself when you shut the car off.

I just tried the turning off DD VSP Error and turning on Snapshot.
I was able to mirror my Nexus 5's screen onto the car's screen using my Chromecast. Works even in Drive. And playing music works too. Can use both Google Maps navigation and listen to music at the same time. The video shows on the car's screen and the audio plays through the car's speakers.
The car's rear and side cameras still work as usual.

Only downside to using the Chromecast is that it requires an active wifi network. That meant I needed to use another phone as a hotspot. For this reason alone, I don't think this setup is worth it.
But if you have a phone that can do HDMI out, then this may work for you.

I believe that the Nexus 5 is compatible with slimport. Have you tried an adapter? This would allow you to plug the phone into the adapter then to the car. They even have ones that have a micro USB that can mirror while charging.

Try Bluetooth as the audio source. That's how it works with my Samsung Galaxy S6 (Android), for audio.

HDMI doesn't just carry video signal. It also does audio. So, anything the phone outputs as video and audio gets piped to your car.

Yeah, I’ve considered that. I’m sure it would work given my experiment with the Chromecast. TBH, I thought that being able to take HDMI signal in gear would be the final hurdle and everything would be dandy after that. Having finally gotten it to work, here’s what I found.

1. A typical smartphone’s screen is better than the car’s screen. The car’s screen is actually of quite poor quality. The resolution and pixel density isn’t very high. Colors look very washed out. And even the size isn’t THAT much larger than a typical smartphone. I think it’s about 7” diagonal while my phone is about 5”. But when you’re looking at it from the driver seat, the difference is almost negligible. The smartphone display is unquestionably crisper and more legible.
2. The car can’t take any other audio input in HDMI mode. So you’re forced to play your music through your phone. That’s fine for most people since that’s probably what happens anyway. But you lose the ability the control your music without fiddling with the phone. Your steering wheel controls for rwd and fwd don’t work and there’s no more touchscreen controls.
3. Finally, the nail in the coffin: there’s no way to take or make phone calls using Bluetooth.

So I’m back to just mounting my phone and using Bluetooth.

Ok, so I've been following this post for a while now and I would like to ask a quick question.

If I just want to be able to put in an address using my hondalink app via the 7 inch touchscreen WHILE driving, can I make a change in the diagnostics to make that happen??

for example, I want to input a change of address while going down the highway...either me or the passenger...but while the car is moving, that section of the navi is not made available until I come to stop.

It may be covered in here somewhere, but for some reason I am not seeing it..

Thanks,

Hi,
I have the 2015 SE 4x4.
my 7" touch screen doesent have the CD plater (no eject button)
any idea how to get into diagnostic or developer mode?
I must have the HDMI lock while driving removed.
if you have any idea how I can disable this "safety" feature that would be very helpful.
thanks in advanced.
Danny
Instead using the EJECT button you can use BRIGHTNESS button

Google Maps is adding offline maps so that if you lose internet connectivity on your phone then your GPS will continue. They're starting with Android then will add the support to iOS.

Have you successfully managed to save the settings?

I have followed the instructions and I can use the HDMI input while driving, *but* if I completely power off the car, I have to redo the steps because the settings are lost.

Long story short, how do you save the settings to make them persistent? I get to the point were "DD VSP Error" is Off and "Snapshot" is On, but how do you like confirm that?

I have tried several options like going back with the button, pressing return, etc. but none seem to work!

Thanks in advance ;)

HDMI goes black upon acceleration.

Samsung Note 3 / CRV touring 2015

I can change the DSP error, even change snaphot, HDMI now works when I shift into drive, however once I accelerate, HDMI screen still turns off. Thoughts/workarounds? (I also cannot get the settings to "stick" but that's a lesser issue).

The same with iPhone 6. Interestingly, audio portion of HDMI input stays working but video part is blocked based on the car speed. I hope people will be able another option to change to bypass this checking.

I'm surprised that after a year, this still hasn't been figured out. I don't want to put an aftermarket unit in my vehicle because i don't want to lose the backup cam or the side cam. Plus, having my phone displayed on the screen when driving isn't worth hundreds of dollars. Hopefully someone can figure this out soon.

Is your CRV with nav too?
