Hi all,

I apologize if this post seems redundant... I am looking to replace my head unit in my 2015 Touring CRV and am pretty confused as to what is needed.

My needs are pretty straight forward.... replace factory Navi head unit with a CarPlay unit, maintaining steering wheel volume / track controls as well as factory backup / lane cameras.

I have seen numerous posts stating I would need an iDatalink adapter/harness, but I am hoping for more detail. When i go to Crutchfield, for example, the webpage tells me I need an iDatalink adapter for the USB, but also says I need a Metra adapter for the steering controls and the antenna connection. There is no mention of camera connectivity.

If anyone has details on what I would need to get the steering and camera functions preserved, please share. I understand that the iDatalink module would be specific to the HU manufacturer.

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

An advantage to purchasing from Crutchfield is that they provide presales and post sales telephone support. In other words, they will happily talk to you over the phone to ensure that you both purchase the right stuff and that you get it installed correctly.

You should do that.

So I called crutchfield, and they told me my car does not support iDatalink, and they have nothing that can help me. I find this a bit odd as I thought I saw posts on this site stating that the iDatalink module was supported in the 2015 CRV Touring. Maybe I was mistaken. Anyways... thanks for your feedback.

I have the 2016 CRV Touring, and replaced the head unit with Joying unit :
It has most of the functionality of the original including rear veiw and lane change camera, it is plug and play essentially, screen is brighter and high res. It can do carplay and android auto and has a very responsive help on line should you need it. It comes with all the paraphenalia that you need for it to be fully functional.
Check the site to order the correct unit for your car
Thanks for this. So to be clear, this unit comes with the CANBUS harness that allows for the lane change camera? I ask because that harness is listed as an accessory they sell for $49.

Canbus harness is included, it gets the data from rear camera thru CRV harness, and the lane change camera is connected to auxiliary video input. It works flawlessly and I have not had any issues with it, I have been using it for over a year now. Facebook has a Joying Group forum with lots of information and pro and cons of the unit

thanks for this feedback. another question... do the factory usb ports (under center armrest) work with the joying unit? if not, what is the solution to get phone connectivity to the system?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with installation of a Joying HU in a 2015 Touring CRV.
I just installed the unit and have the following challenges:

1. No factory USB connectivity. Has anyone gotten this to work? I would love to not have excessive wires coming from the glove box or out from under the dashboard if possible.
2. Wired USB - I get an error after trying multiple iphones and cables that states:

Trouble Connecting

Check your connection and try again.

Thanks for any suggestions.

How is the audio quality out of these? I’ve opened one up to try and repair one for a friends for his 2015 CRV maybe not the one said but the components were crazy small and low output mosfets. Sadly his fried a part that was fairly expensive so he opted for a new revised unit.

Have you contacted Joying support?

It does not connect to the oem usb it will have its own usb interface. If you are handy and can solder you can adapt it to it but it is not plug and play and would require cutting and splicing tiny wires that need a zero resistance connection to be proper.

Thanks for this reply. This seems to be the case after a thorough examination of all the harnesses. Joying support does not appear to be aware of this.

anyways, I now need to figure out why the HU usb ports will not connect to my phones. I continue to get connection error messages (or “link fail, try another port” in CarPlay). I am wondering if the can in/can out connection required for the factory usb support is interfering with it.

I do have that adapter as provided by Joying, but I cannot find the factory plug that this adapter goes to. Is there a plug that is removed from the factory head unit that should go to this adapter? There are 2 plugs that did go to the factory head unit (one grey, one green) that appear identical and are similar to the USB adapter, but do not appear to be a match. I have also found some information online suggesting the factory usb plug is actually up behind the small display above the head unit, but I have checked and found no harness there.

Additional note to my first reply... could the green and grey plugs be the factory usb plugs They almost fit, but didnt seem to fully engage and I didnt want to force anything.

I do not have info for compass heading. The OEM head unit communicates with the PCM via GA-Net Bus and perhaps includes the heading info from the GPS receiver .The diagnostic info for OEM head unit :

"This diagram below shows an overview of the navigation diagnostic features starting at the center and working outward in layers. The diagram starts with "Key On." Next the diagram shows two ways to get the diagnostic main menu:
  • By starting the vehicle with the SCS connector plugged in, you will enter the diagnostic "System Links" screen.

Touch "Return" to get the main diagnostic menu.
  • From any of the navigation Map or Menu screens, press and simultaneously hold the keys Menu Map Cancel.
Finally, the diagram shows the available diagnostic menu choices, starting at the bottom left, and moving clockwise.
In most cases, do not clear or change settings in any diagnostic screen unless instructed to do so in the explanation, or by the factory. If the factory asks you to insert a PCMCIA memory card into the "PC Slot," then the features specified on the diagram as "(Card)" are available."
