I also forgot to mention on my anterior post, that the range of the OEM Remote Start sucks. Sometimes I have to walk to the car within a few feet in order to remote start it.

 

the OEM starter does suck. It runs for ten mins. and thats it, I think you can re-start it for another ten mins. After that you have to go open and close a door for it to start again

 

According to the 2017 Honda CRV Manual : "To extend the run for another 10 minutes during the first run,press the lock button,then press and hold the start button"

When I tried that I get confirmation ,via lights flashing, but it won't run longer than the original 10 minutes and ,as downloader said ,I need to open a door to try again.

 

You are misunderstanding how the function works.
It will only extend it 10 minutes *from the last time you pressed the correct key combination*.

In other words, if you remote start the car and it runs for 5 minutes, then you can press the start combination again (Lock, then Start), and it will keep running 10 minutes from the time you execute the command.

If you press the start command and then immediately press it again it is not going to run for 20 minutes - only for 10 minutes from the time you completed the second command.

In order to get close to 20 minutes run time you need to do this:

1) Execute remote start sequence
2) Let it run just under 10 minutes
3) Execute another start sequence

Step 3) will "extend" the run time for another 10 minutes without the car shutting off.

 

Thank Jepalan for your reply. I thought that I could run the engine remotely for 20 min from the get going. Is very inconvenient for me to do it like that ,because the remote range is so weak that I have to get outside to the parking lot to try again within the first 10 Min. Not impress by Honda

 

I have the 2017 Touring and have inconsistent results using the remote start. Living in Alaska I can't stand getting in a freezing car. Can someone tell me how long they hold the start button after pressing the lock button? Thanks.

I just do the remote start sequence. Once it confirms its running i redo it and the clock says "20 min"

It's the remote start that came on the Touring. It's part of the key fob.

 

My 2017 Touring does not have a "clock" on the key fob showing start time remaining. Nor does it have feedback to the key fob. The only feedback is the car lights flashing.

Maybe the remote works like it did on my 08 Impala with factory remote start. I think the timer was 15 minutes on it and you could extend it once. You started the car remotely normally and to extend the time, you had to do it again. It didn't add another 15 minutes but it extended whatever time that was left on the initial start to 15 minutes from the time it was reset.

That is strange. I'm able to remote start mine 50 feet away.

 

The manual mentions that it could be 110 m (i.e. Around 350ft) or even more if the path is clear between you and the car!!

 

I myself never have a need to keep the car running idle for more than 10 min, but then it may be just me...

 

The remote on my 2017 Touring works from at least 30 feet away. The problem I have is when I get in the car the system (nav) display isn't on. When I press the start button it shuts the engine off and I have to restart, Is this normal? I thought I'd just get in and be able to drive.

 

If you look at your dash it has a message that states to put you foot on the brake and push start to keep it running. Otherwise it will shut off.

 

Just a note that if you keep a spare fob in the car, take the battery out or you're remote
starter will not work.

On our new 17 Touring, unless our V has a problem, or unless I'm not doing something right, I'm apparently not talented enough to press the start button and the brake "simultaneously" as the manual states to keep the engine running, I always kill it in the "simultaneously" process. The "simultaneously” thing is awkward, seems there s/b a better way?

On the topic of start button to acc mode, on mode, & off mode. I press start w/o brake to go to acc mode, then to turn V off I have to press start button again to on mode. Then, pressing a 3rd time turns the V off. The 2nd press turns on all the V's electrical power as if starting. Seems there s/b a better way to go from acc mode to off w/o first turning on all the V's power - is this the only way to turn V off from acc mode?

Update = remote started V engine stays running by first pushing down on the brake, then press the start button! Wait let me try 1 more time...1 moment, yes push down on brake, then 1 sec later push on the start button & off you go!!

Ill simply live with the acc mode > on mode > off mode.

It starts and runs for the 10 minutes and shuts off. I cannot repeat this process unless I go out and manually start it first. Is this normal after the first cycle is completed? Sometimes 10 minutes isn't enough to clear the windshield. Thanks

You have to do it again before the end of 10 minutes to extend it an additional ten
So at minute 9 you’d bump it to 19

 

on page 452 of the owners manual there is information regarding a 10 minute extension- its a bit ambiguious but it may be that the extension needs to be requested before the first remote start sequence has completed...

 

Yes, the time extension must be added before the first 10 minute cycle completes. It will be 10 minutes from the time of the additional button push. Perhaps someone could do this test for my issue. Do a remote start and let it complete and shut off. Wait a few minutes and try the do another remote start. Mine won't. Again mine is a 2017 and I'm not sure if all crvs are the same or not. Mine will restart with the fob for an additional 10 minutes, even if I was not quick enough to go back to the window and it shut off after the first 10. But it won't run more than 20 minutes (2 remote starts).

 

When I do my remote start, when the red light on the remote blinks, the car is starting.

2018 CRV....used the auto start yesterday as it was sitting in the sun a long time while at Doc,s.....I had the air on and about 3rd speed on the fan....walked to car and nothing...SUV was running ,but no fan or air on?.....does this system only work in the colder weather.. thanks for any info...

 

The system is designed to warm/cool the interior of your CR-V to 72 degrees (+/-). If you entered your vehicle and it was HOT then you have an issue, however if you entered and the interior was comfortable it's likely the interior temperature was within preprogrammed parameters.
