Car reviews

......

2019 Accord Sport 2.0T - By far the most fun I have had in all of the vehicles. I don't think I can go back to a sedan. I use the storage of the CRV all the time and don't think a sedan really fits my needs.
The current generation Accord is impressive, even versions without the 2.0T. But I agree with you.. once you get accustomed to an SUV it is really hard to go back to a car format.

Did you by any chance consider a current generation Crosstrek from Subaru as a replacement? They are a bit smaller then a CRV (and are classified as a sub-compact) but it is miles ahead of the poorly implemented first generation HRV from Honda. I looked at the Crosstrek when I was doing comparisons before I bought my 2017 CRV... but dismissed it at the time as they were just releasing and it was the first year of an all new platform and the cargo space is good but inferior to the CRV (which honestly is very hard to beat in it's class). Also Eyesight was a paid option at the time, but is standard on all trims now. Price advantage and a more compact vehicle is why I looked at it initially. My guess is if you test drove it you would find it pretty limp after the CRV... but it might be worth test driving to see.

Anyway.. good luck with shopping and choosing a replacement. Hopefully the insurance company is fair with the total price-out. When my wife totaled her 2013 Accord... the insurance appraised condition and then calculated exactly what it would take to get an exact replacement off the local dealer lots, including registration and sales taxes.. which honestly was better then if she had tried to sell it on her own prior to the the crash.

The areas circled in pink are damage points.

Great photo of the damage points... and that's just what can be seen visually. Between the parts pulled so far, plus the visible damage.... there are many thousands of dollars in parts to be replaced.. and then labor on top of that.

I bet the engine is damaged internally as well.. and maybe the CVT due to abrupt stop from the collision.

Honestly.... you are getting the advantage with the total loss... as you don't have to worry about anything that gets missed during repairs and that jumps out at you later on.

Yeah I know the difference. We lost our first 2017 CRV in February. The difference between trade in and retail is massive. I wasn't keeping the vehicle even if it was repaired.

I will be updating with pics. Got some good bumper off pics of engine

Hey dude I am very happy to hear your fine and that nobody got injured. Now don't be tempted to go to the Dark Side :devilish: That CR-V just gave up it's life to save yours.;)

The hybrid supposedly solves the noise and shifting issues. It has more sound deadening and is a CVT. The extra power and fuel economy are icing on the cake.
Yes, a friend just picked-up her Limted Hybrid 2019 Rav4 AWD. Overall, it is much better then the gas only. With its CVT and dual motors, it makes launches more like the CRV 1.5L And its CVT with its electors motors assist, makes the car in Colorado elevaton power loss feel more like a turbo. I did not get the noise and high revs in normal driving. Highway was almost CR-V like. Pretty impressive drivetrain (with high MPG) for $800 upgrade.

I kept it quiet until I got word that the vehicle is officially totaled. A nice gentleman skipped a stop sign and in an effort not to T-bone him I took off the front end of his car and hit the corner of this church. 30-35mph event. No airbags deployed. No injuries. Honestly it was a very soft feeling hit. I was very happy with how the CRV performed in the wreck.

I actually didn't think it would be totaled, but there was significant engine damage and damage to the frame, A and B pillars. Momentum is a hell of a thing when you go from 20mph to 0 in an instant. I was also told the front door hit collapsed the front suspension. I will see if I can get tear down pics today.

I will try to update the post with final pay out. This is a 17 EX AWD.
Ouch! I'm sure glad you came out okay. I already knew that brick walls always win, though I won't say how. I hope your wallet fares better than the car did. That was a pretty car. I hate when I have things just like I want them to be and then boom, I have to start over. It's highly annoying.

So just for reference on final payout.

2017 CRV EX AWD all weather mats and wheel locks

12-15-17 Purchase Price $27,700
06-12-19 Accepted total $24,600

And for those that missed it, This is actually the second totaled CRV in the family. We received $26,600 for a similar aged 17 EXL.

Resale value wise, I can't imagine doing much better with any other brand.

UMR - I'm curious how many miles did you have on it? Who is your underlying insurance carrier? Overall I agree very good payout.

I think it was mentioned but I was also surprised the airbag did not deploy. Maybe I missed it but any known reason why it didn't deploy? Too slow?

Initial contact was in the intersection and at my door. After initial I went through hydrant and I was on the brakes hard enough that the impact of the church was sub 20 mph.

The side impact was 20mph or less and the front was too.

It was a horrible feeling while it happened but I was absolutely sure they would go off on the second impact and I was gonna get a face full of airbag.

Yeah you are very lucky it did not deploy. I had a coworker get into a low speed accident and hers deployed. The next day at work Her face looked like she had been beaten up! She also said she thought she had eye damage and was going to get it checked out. A week later she was fine but now she fears air bags.

Glad you are ok. Any crash you can walk away in one piece is a good one. Like Rob mentioned airbags can cause some serious facial damage so its good that they did not deploy.
CRV did its job and kept you safe. [emoji106]

It is extremely important to wear your seat belt (and wear it properly) in an airbag equipped vehicle. Otherwise your body could be too far forward when the airbag deploys and you receive body trauma from the controlled explosion and force of the airbag. You also want to have your seat properly set for your body... too close and again... a trauma event waiting to happen. It's basically a large canvas hand grenade.

My wife had an airbag trigger in a major crash last year on the freeway. She received a minor flash burn on her right hand (probably hot gasses exiting the steering wheel bag assembly). That was it.. walked away uninjured beyond a small first degree burn on the right hand. Her Accord did it's job, and lost it's life in exchange for hers.

Welcome to the "My Brand New CR-V was Totaled" Club!

My 2017 CR-V AWD EX-L was totaled 6 weeks after I bought it. An 18 year old driver who wasn't as good as he thought at judging distances and didn't know to yield when making a left turn. When the airbag goes off it makes a real big mess. And causes large, ugly bruises. Frame and engine damage made it not worth repairing.

611 miles on the odometer. Sheesh.
His insurance paid quickly and I replaced it 2 weeks later with a 2017 CR-V AWD Touring. Same color :)

That looks almost exactly like the hit our EXL took. My gf had a mild concussion.

Well, speaking of car reviews and hijacking the thread -- I hate to bring up the dreaded OD issue but my 2018 CRV-touring with 4k miles on it had it. Funny, I wondered all fall/winter why my car would not heat up in the cabin and wished I had sprung for the heated steering wheel -- then I began to read what was going on -- thanks to this forum. I read and read, and then I began to smell gas in the cabin. I learned to check my own oil by about mile 4k and it was half an inch over the fill line.

I didn't want to deal with Honda on this -- it didn't seem fruitful. I traded the CRV in for a 2019 Subaru Outback R3.6 touring which I love. And guess what -- heat in the cabin!! I don't even need a heated steering wheel though the Subaru came equipped.

What do I miss? The kick to open tailgate and sitting higher. Oh, and the year of car payments I lost -- about $6k. But so, so happy I am not having to deal w/the OD issue.

Wait till you find out Subaru now uses direct injected engines. Guess the 3.6 doesn't but it's not like Subaru is any different reliability wise. They score equally in most CR reports I have seen

Speaking of which, I have 3 oil samples that have never been ran. Don't really see a reason to run them but it would be interesting
