Just got this 2018 Honda CRV EX-l last week. I never ever got to connect to CarPlay. I am having a lot of difficulties with the Apple CarPlay. It just will not connect. I tried everything from factory reset the other day before I got my original Apple MFI cable, to rebooting the system and buying and trying an original Apple MFI certified cable. I did notice that sometimes when I reboot the screen, normally where it would say smartphone connection it replaced it with “app list”. I reboot the screen once again and smartphone connection icon comes back but no CarPlay.(I don’t know if this app list thingy has anything to do with it). What do I do. Any help would really be appreciated as I have been frustrated since this last week with no CarPlay. I also attached photos of a better explanation.

Hi
There are a few basic things to check. Are you using the right USB port? Only the 1.5A will support Carplay. The other one is charge only and won't recognize your phone as Carplay compatible. Have you tried a different iphone? It doesn't take much fluff etc in the phone socket to cock things up. On first use it should auto detect your phone. You can download the manual here and its on page 390 but very basic because it should just work! My daughter uses Carplay and it's very fussy with cables. You've obviously eliminated any issues there. I use Android auto on my 2019 CRV and it took a bit of perseverance to get it going initially. It needed an APP update on the phone. There' also quite a few videos on Youtube that may help?

Have you got Bluetooth on? It needs Bluetooth for calls and cable for audio and apps unless you've got wireless Carplay. Even if you're not using it for calls it won't work without bluetooth. It's definitely worth trying another iphone if you can. Do you know if android auto works? Can you try your iphone in a different car? As you can probably tell I'm not a believer in Car dealers especially when they suggest a solution thats probably going to be expensive!
