Hi folks i am seeing a lot of carplay issues in this forum so not sure if i can get any hep here. My 2020 CRV only supports wired usb connection. It worked great then got in one day and no response. I have swapped cords, “forget” the CRV from carplay app on iphone. Reboot phone, really all the recommendations but it doesn’t work. I cant even add the phone as a Bluetooth connection. The car still keeps asking me to add a phone every time i start it. It shows a iphone 8 which is my phone but when i pick add device it fails or says plug in the usb even though it already is. I recently updated my iphone to latest IOS but everything else works fine, other BT devices etc just the CRV doesn’t. Its really annoying as i used my phone for music, maps when travelling and siri to make a hands free call now nothing works. Any ideas? Would pulling the battery connectors off for a while reset the radio? Also would purchasing an external wireless/BT dongle that plugs into the usb work?
Any hep would be appreciated

thanks all

Ok, you did all the right things in terms of troubleshooting and I know that because I have been on this ride already. The first thing to tell you is that you are never going to get wired CarPlay to work consistently or for very long, give that up before it drives you crazy. The second thing is that CarPlay is not a Bluetooth based technology in the sense of A2DP and the like. You might not have noticed but the sound is of higher quality when you are using CarPlay and it sounds fuller? That is because just using the Bluetooth connection will give you essentially what A2DP supports, a stereo. CarPlay is a WiFi based technology that uses Bluetooth to enable the connection to work transparently. That is, you are connected to your home wifi and get in the car and start it up and within a few seconds, your phone has switched over and the music comes out of your car speakers --this can be very dramatic if done with Handoff. You will need a dongle that plugs into the USB that normally supports wired CarPlay and you will not be able to charge your phone using either of the front USB ports. However, that dongle is NOT Bluetooth and a plain Bluetooth dongle will not work. What will work is a CarPlay dongle and I posted on another answer a link to the one that I use and it works like a charm. There is nothing wrong with your phone or with iOS, this is simply a problem of what I believe was an attempt, a very stupid attempt, at marketing the wireless from factory CarPlay to Acura buyers and wired CarPlay (the idea seems to be to suggest "reliable, established technology" to Honda buyers) to Honda buyers. I think that along with the "everything in the stereo so you can't change it" this was one of Honda's biggest blunders.
Thank you very much this makes alot of sense and will save me time (🙏and gray hair) trying to get this working. Sounds like a Carplay dongle is my next step, thank you again!

On a separate note, if the actual Bluetooth in your car is not functional and the cause is anything other than a blown fuse, the answer is, unfortunately, a replacement head unit of some sort depending on what you are willing to give up and what you'd have to give up, one from Honda or an aftermarket stereo. I don't think that is the problem you are having and I believe that you are going to have to reboot the head unit. For the most basic part (wait until you have the CarPlay USB because you might not have to even do this or do it twice) just push down the volume knob and hold it down until a dialogue box appears in the middle of your screen asking you if you want to reboot your stereo, say yes. You will have to wait it out with the car running but I believe that will cure your current A2DP based ailment. Once you get the CarPlay dongle, you will not have to worry about the car's Bluetooth because your phone will see the adapter first and connect to that and then switch over to wifi and then, the CarPlay screen will appear on your phone first. Your stereo might ask you to connect the dongle that is already plugged in and installed, DONT DO ANYTHING! NOTHING IS ACTUALLY WRONG, the handshake is just taking longer than the norm that time so you see that on the car's screen. Soon thereafter, the CarPlay screen will appear and you will be much happier.
Thanks again for taking the time to explain this! This was extremely helpful!

Did you perform the reset with the car running? I tried the same thing in my garage but never started the car, just performed from accessory mode.
I did it with car running, parked. It took less than a minute to come back up. Instantly picked up my phone started up Carplay on phone and radio..super pumped this worked.
