In my 2022 hybrid CR-V, it sounds like a stupid chorus singing. Couldn't some genius engineer come up with an audible sound that sound like, I don't know, the vehicle engine running???
our neighbour drives a Kia Sportage hybrid, the noise it produces when on EV mode sounds like an alien which is worse than the Honda…just saying

I agree that the back-up sound is more obnoxious than necessary to capture attention. It sounds like a high-pitched, over-the-top, screech. Please work to introduce some other approved options. (For whatever reason, I haven't heard the same sound from other EV or Hybrid cars.)

And the first time you hit a pedestrian, your insurance company is going to have a few things to say.

That sound is federally mandated. Unplugging or "muting" the sound can get you fined.
I doubt you'll get fined, however, if you do hit someone backing up, they will have grounds for a hefty lawsuit depending on the extent of injury. First rule, leave mandated safety equipment alone.

I tell my grandkids the sound is angels singing but they insist my 23’ Hybrid Sport sounds like demons singing when I reverse. We have to have all windows closed because they really hate the sound. 😂
This is, unfortunately, a Federally mandated and required sound that all Hybrid and electric vehicles must make. Not sure I would describe the sound made, as 'Shrieking', rather, I like the nickname used by a lot of Hybrid users (including myself,, and I too, park in an underground parking lot), that being "Chorus of Angels".

I would be checking with the dealer if indeed your is making a shrieking sound.

I do agree with your observations about the sound of the vehicle when running only on the ICE, and backing up or moving forward. But,.... I'm not a lawmaker, nor do I work for an Auto manufacturer.

You can also put acoustic tape wrapped all around the speaker to muffle the sound. That’s what I did…

The back up noise is much louder than a Tesla or other electric vehicle. It's also much louder than the noise made by a conventional gas powered car. Hey Honda, why not add a marching band noise to these vehicles??!! I have to close the windows when my husband backs out of the driveway. It is very annoying. Don't we have enough noise in this world???

You can always muffle the sound by adding sound deadening material on the speaker…did that and it toned down a bit
