The loud shrieking noise when in reverse is obnoxious. I park my vehicle in a covered garage structure and when the noise comes on it reverberates through the entire structure. Some people think its a theft alarm and they look at me strangely and whip out their cell phones to take a picture of me. Before you jump in and say its a safety issue, let me point out a few things. First, what ever happened to the old beep-beep-beep backup alarm? Second, the current back-up noise maker is strangely located at the front of the vehicle, not at the rear. Third, the alarm activates only while you are in battery mode. If the gas engine is on, then the back up alarm is silent. You cannot hear the gas engine at the rear while backing up at 3 MPH. Fourth, given that there are three mirrors on the vehicle plus a rearview camera, why is an alarm at 80db necessary?
I'm serious thinking of determining if there is a separate fuse for this alarm that I could pull but I suspect that Honda wired it in conjunction with the slow forward speed alarm needed for possible blind pedestrians in the crosswalk. If I can't just pull a fuse, then maybe the wire to the noise-maker might "accidently" become disconnected.
Your thoughts?
