I’m new to to the board but not to Honda. I’m on my third (81 civic, 87 civic, and currently a 95 Ex Wagon 266k). Time to replace. I’m looking at a CR-V Ex-L AWD. My real world question has to do with dimensions. My usable garage door opening is 95” wide and about 71” high. I think it will fit some room to spare but …

The specs on the web say the overall width without mirrors is 73.5. What do the mirrors add? I know they can fold in. Without the mirrors the CR-V about 4 inches wider than my wagon. I don’t have to fold my mirrors in on my wagon to drive in. But I do have to be spot on to be able to open both doors once inside. (Picture attached)

The length is not an issue.

The height is where my concerns lie. 66.5” What do the antenna, rails and cross bars add? I know that the wheel choice can also change the height and 2WD vs AWD. When I park next to a CR-V it feels taller. I can drive my wagon with a Yakima Space Cadet pod on top into the garage. I don’t expect that with the CR-V.

What are some real world numbers here? I don’t think sales would let me test drive it into my garage {smile}. Thanks, I've learned a lot from you all in what to look for and consider when buying a CR-V. I expect you all will show me it will fit... then we're on to test drive for seat fit and finding a good dealer in the PDX (Oregon) area. Again thanks..

Dang, I thought my garage was small... I had a Ridgeline that I could fit in the garage, but even though it's a "two car" garage, one could really only fit two Mini Coopers in it. The CR-V is probably 2 feet shorter than the Ridgeline, so now when I'm parked in the garage as far forward as I can go, I have a couple feet of space between the rear and the door. I can open the rear hatch inside with the garage door open or closed... so that's nice!

While I'm not sure, the height likely DOES include the antenna. I don't know how much rails on the OEM roof rack would add, but I'd suspect not much more above the antenna. Hopefully you'll get some good responses soon.

"What do the mirrors add? I know they can fold in."

Yes they can be folded in, but I would not recommend doing that on a regular basis. They are a required safety item in case you hit a pedestrian. Honda does not sell the electric ones that automatically fold in when you park. You would have to look to Acura for those.

Quark: Unless you live far from the dealership, I don't see why you couldn't "test park" it in your garage. My dealer threw me the keys and said have a nice ride.
This is a great idea Ravenuer... but I'm not comfortable with it. I'm in my 70's and am 28 years driving this wagon. I have a spatial feel for my tight fit. 10 minutes driving in a new car that is 4 inches wider does not make me confident about the space nor now the car drives... gas, brakes, etc. I'd just soon not punch a new back door in my garage nor scrape the car {smile}. If it fits and I buy I'll leave the car out side of the garage until I feel confident on driving at slow speed in close quarters like parking spaces. So I'm back to the original query. What are the dimensions?

Yes I know I can go to the dealer with a tape measure and asks sales to lower the windows and measure the width and then walk out. Height is a little more tricky... so I thought I'd ask you all. Thanks for being patient with me here.

If you do get the car you’ll have to get used to it sounding like a 5 alarm fire every time you pull into and back out of the garage!

Thanks Patruns for your reply. I assume the Acura auto fold happens when you park.. doesn't help me in the drive in and I don't know which model is like the CR-V and if what I just said is true and it may be out of my price range.

For the last decade at least I have folded the driver side mirror in every time I park. There isn't much space between the wagon and a chest freezer. I've never had a problem. On the passenger side a street person kicked the mirror off because he was having a bad day with the car in front of me. Put it back on with a zip tie and the adjust options still works.

So I hear Your concern... but why not on a regular basis? Is this a Honda position? Or just wear and tear? Thanks, just trying to understand. Because if I can't fold in the mirrors regularly then this may not work for me. But again I don't know now just how wide the CR-V is. Appreciated the feedback.

My 22 squeezes in an 8’ door with a few inches to spare. Takes a bit of careful planning not to hit the door till you are used to lining up.

FWIW. Just went out to my garage. My 2023 EX stands 66" tall at the shark fin antenna. The width is rated at 73.5", but I don't know if that includes the mirrors or not, but each mirror sticks out 6" from the side of the door.

I looked up the specs for a 1995 Honda Accord wagon, and the overall width without mirrors is 70.1 inches. Per Edmunds the width of the CR-V without mirrors is 73.5 inches. Height is 55.9 inches for the Accord and 66.2 inches for the CR-V. Hope that helps.

Thanks... I assume you drive in without folding the mirrors in? This is getting closer... no pun intended. 23/24 half inch wider... my door at 95 one inch narrower. Agree with the lining up. So what do you use to line it up?

Yes I started here... My guess was the mirrors on the 95 added 8 inches total. Had to account for the shape of the door. Don't have help to run a tape total side to side for the 95. Thanks

Okay this is good on the height.. docs say 66.5" so close enough. This mean that rails and even cross bars won't add much vertical height. Leaves me 6 inches up?

So on the mirrors we're at 85.5" assuming a flat side. This leaves me with about 5 inches on each side. Best estimates/measures so far. Thanks

My android auto comes in quite loud when using navigation, louder than whatever music I'm playing. I wish there was a shorthand version of directions, google talks too much and repeats.
I just had this same problem with super loud audio "siri voice" from navigation as well in my 2024 CR-V Sport-L. There's a specific audio setting for 'Navigation' to lower this specific volume which I just did with success. I think it's in the Honda system settings for either audio or navigation. Hope that helps.

Once you do it a few times with your head out the window you almost learn whre you have to be looking thru the windshield and lining up with certain objects.

But yep no fancy folding mirrors here without getting out and manually doing it. Even on touring trim here. Lol.

Love these guys, I watch almost everything they put out. Knowledgeable, professional, relevant reviews that are unbiased and thorough...and they have great senses of humor! Happy to see they love the "new" CRV, and fun to see my exact car reviewed (ST Hybrid in same beautiful Canyon River blue paint).

They highlight many upgrades over prior gen CRVs, and particularly appreciate the details about interior cabin noise and drivetrain engineering. Fascinating.
