Any Experience Using Honda Extreme Cold Weather Antifreeze?

Thinking of adding some to my son's CRV, who now lives in North Dakota, as a boost to his engine's coolant protection during the winter. Product comes with a warning not to use it in extremely hot conditions. Just wondering if anyone "up north" has tried it. Thanks.

The Honda Extended Life type 2 coolant in his car right now says it protects to -34°F, and he does have a block heater installed presently. It was a Christmas present last year from his worry-wart dad ... and he reported that the car was noticeably easier to start in January & February after it was installed & used. I was thinking of simply adding a quart of the concentrate antifreeze to give the -34 limit a little extra help for those times the car sits turned off for several days. His car may be perfectly okay, but I'm still a dad who worries about his kids no matter how old they get or how far away they travel.

Coolant does not affect starting unless you're colder than the coolant is rated for. Coolant does not behave like engine oil that gets progressively thicker with cooling, it starts crystallizing when below the rated temperature which you can easily adjust with concentrate and in your North Dakota case probably should. A fully synthetic engine oil with low cold starting viscosity (0W..5W) + block heater is the biggest help here.

Tip of the day: you don't need to run the block heater for any longer than 2h before the startup, not even in extreme cold.
