Most of the time, the driver doesn't notice a brake bulb going out. Then when they do, it could be both bulbs are burnt out. That is one possibility. The other is the fuse and then all three would be out. Or, it could be the brake switch is faulty. So, it never signals the body control module (Multiplex Input Control Module) to turn on the brake lights.

 

Lastly, it could be a broken wire somewhere in the circuit, or even a bad earth connection ( but that would usually have other circuits with issues too)

 

regarding the bulbs, there are different ones whether your car has a S or J VIN number. One bulb is a twist-in type, the other is a wedge push in type. Better to take one out first to look and see if you’re getting the right ones.

The high mount brake light went out a couple of weeks ago. I went into get my oil changed today and they said now the stop lights/brake lights are out too.

They checked to see if it was a fuse, it wasn’t.

Think one going and not being replaced triggered the other ones to go too? Or just they’re all old and died at the same time? Or something more serious?

I’m ordering replacement bulbs and I have a question.
The bulb that is currently in the brake light is an old school round type incandescent bulb. (The other ones are a more compact flat type).

I looked up the part #’s. #7443 for stop light and #7440 for the high mount.

The bulb rock auto shows for the brake light/stop light is a different shape bulb.

I noticed online someone recommended the #1156 for the brake light.

I don’t want to order the wrong ones. I didn’t want LED ‘cause I’m not sure if they are an exact fit.
Is there something I’m missing?

check brake light switch is working first then check the power wire to switch.
