My local dealer is installing an accessory on all the new Hondas called BrakePlus and charging $699. It makes the senter brake light pulse when the brakes are applied.

Go the the enclosed link and watch the video and you will see that it is a small three wire inline plug in that should not cost more that $15 at the most plus a very minor install.

Talk about a blind side rip off for new car buyers!!!!! I've ordered a Touring with NO dealer installed accessories for this and other accessories that the dealers want to charge for. If you want genuine Honda accessory parts, go here for a much better deal. I've ordered and received splash guards, cargo mat, and floor mats and received then within 4 days even this time of year. http://www.collegehillshonda.com/category/2017-honda-crv-accessories.html

The vehicle is in SUCH short supply, (with most cars pretty much going right from the truck into driver's hands within a day or two) that it certainly makes sense to request that you purchase one that simply hasn't arrived yet, and that you will not be paying for any additional features.

My dealer added a "protection package" (splash guards, wheel locks, cargo tray) to every CR-V on the lot (and something similar to every single car they sell), but I had no problem asking that mine, when it arrived (only three days later), not included. (And this was part of my pricing commitment.)

The flashing center brake light (or centre high mount stop lamp, CHMSL for short) was something that you saw back in the mid 1980's when the third brake light was introduced but was changed to a solid light a few years later, I assume to avoid driver distraction. If you believe Wikipedia, I think by US law/DOT regulation, it's not supposed to flash anymore. Technically, the dealer is altering the brake light to be noncompliant with US regulations. Although I see this often on motorcycles that have modified flashing brake lights.

During my negotiation (when I was deciding whether to take one from stock or order one in) I told the salesman I would have them remove the $699 "protection package". I finally decided on the one in stock and during the purchase I made sure that $699 package was not on the sales order. The closer mentioned they probably wouldn't have taken it off. Sure enough, everything in their package was still on the car. It probably costs the dealership about $100 for the whole thing.
