Cargo cover not covering the entire storage area

I got an after market cargo cover for my 2023 crv. But it doesn't cover the area from the "bar" to the back seats.

If I shine a flashlight, I can still see a good portion of the storage area thru the gap between the cover bar and back seats.

Does anyone notice the similar problem? Thank you.

Unfortunately, I returned the product and I don't have a photo to share.

That's interesting. I don't have a cover for mine. But we also own a 2019 Nissan Murano that does have one. It also has reclining back seats. Their solution was to integrate a soft vinyl "flap" into the back end of the bar that connects to the back seat headrest tubes with open c-clips. There is enough slack in the flaps so the seats can be adjusted without disconnecting the clips. Due to that the flap droops a bit but still completely covers the area behind the seat. The clips pop loose easily when removing the cover assembly.
Surprised Honda didn't use a similar method.

I've been a long, long time Honda owner. Mostly Accord sedan and coupes. This is my first CR-V as I've gotten too old to get in and out of an accordo_O. It seems Honda is following their typical game plan with new and redesigned models: First offer less but add items in refresh years. If that's true, in the next few iterations the CR-V will offer/add fog lights, tweaked interiors, larger infotainment screens, overhead view cameras etc.
These are likely some of the reasons it's often said not to buy a first year re-design or new model. That's O.K. though, I still love my 2023 CR-V Hybrid. But I suspect the rear cover issue will will be upgraded in the coming years.
Just a thought.

I see this. Seems pretty good. I'll give it a try when it's available.

This approach is identical to what they did with the Gen5 cargo covers. Exactly in fact, though the actual covers may be different slightly due to different interior geometry. Honestly this has never been a security issue in my mind, until this thread discussion. :)

However, if it worries any members here, two simple solutions:

1) simply insure if you park anywhere where peeky-boos might look for reasons to break your glass, then make surfe nothing in the cargo hold is visible through that gap. All you have to do is move things toward the hatch about 6-8 inches and the cargo area will appear empty from that gap. OR... just recline the rear seats a bit to close the gap.

2) it would be quite easy to create a rear flap of a black plastic sheeting (say 30-40 mils), Form bend a one inch section on the long axis, apply a 3M adhesive tape and then just attach it to the back side of the cargo covers metal bar. That will create a vision block, but would also be flexible enough to let the rear seats continue to recline.

Just purchased a 2024 Honda CR-V touring. Was disappointed that for a Canadian car with tax in for 60k, they discontinued the cargo cover for the back. It cost another $350 if you want one. I did as I feel it adds a lawyer of security if you want to store items out of sight. Got the cover today and discovered there is a large gap between the cover and the back seat. I realized it lessens the gap if you recline the rear seats all the way back but still leaves a noticeable gap where someone standing by one of the rear doors looking in the small window can see a good amount of the cargo area even though the cover is pulled closed and the seats reclined all the way. Thinking of cutting a black piece of rigid plastic and gluing it to the entire length of the aluminum bottom of the fixed portion of the bottom retractable cover with the piece of plastic excess facing forward so it curves down to fill in the gap.

Does anyone else have a work around for this problem or an idea that might work?

Thanks in advance!

The cargo covers don't seem to provide security at the hatch door or behind the seats. Looking from either direction you can see what's in the cargo area. I bought one with a flap at the hatchback door but the flap isn't long enough to hide what's in the cargo area. What's the point? Very frustrating. Also annoying that the Sport trim does not come with one...It comes with a dumb cargo net that I can't see the point of either! This is Oakland folks, car break-ins are as common as drug dealing.

Unfortunately the extra cargp cover is just to keep things from falling behind the seats. It doesn't prevent you from seeing into the cargo area from a side window. Nor does tilting the seats back. The cargo cover is too flimsy to put much on top of it anyway.
