Climate Control Issue

2022 EX-L.
During winter weather, noticed that to maintain a comfortable temperature, I needed to set the thermostat to 68, where in most cars I would set to 72. In the summer weather, setting to 66-68, the car never gets cool. The AC compressor is working; the fan just doesn’t kick in high enough. Even turning it down to 64 does little. If I turn it all the way to low I finally get the fan on high and the car cools quickly. Almost seems like the programming is way off.

I’ve been enjoying this forum. This is my second CRV; have a 2016 that I gave to my daughter. My first Honda, and probably my favorite car all time, was a 1982 Prelude.

Thanks for your help. I will show this to the dealer at my first oil change. Looking to see if this is a common issue.

I ALWAYS turn my A/C on to the LOW setting to start (I have so in every vehicle I have ever owned). That is the quickest way to achieve the desired temp range. I manually turn the knob to a higher setting once the desired temp range has been reached. This car is smart. It will run the A/C as lightly as possible in an effort to achieve the best fuel economy. To override this, turn the knob to LOW. Similar to getting more power out of the drivetrain. Shift into S for more power but watch your gas gauge drop faster in turn.

Auto Climate Control for the win.

It works better than the driver trying to control cabin temps manually. It auto controls everything, including the fan blower. Note: if you touch any of the manual controls though it disables Auto Climate Control until you re-enable it.

Separately.....there are temperature sensors inside the cabin that drive the climate control system, and it is possible that HDoc has some issue with the closed loop temperature control system somehow. 2022.... go straight to the dealer to discuss and evaluate your concern.... because that is what your bumper to bumper factory warranty is for.

Do you not have an auto climate button?

As to the OP, I set mine at 70 all year. The high fan does not immediately kick in, but it does in less than a minute. Either you are not using the control properly (Is the light on the button on?) or it's time to visit the dealer.

So....I finally got to the dealer for my oil change and State Inspection. I asked them to check the climate control and explained that on hot days if I don't set the temp to 63 the fan quickly cycles down and the car never cools.

I was told that this was normal operation for the climate control system. They went on to explain how a climate control system operates by comparing the interior temp to the outside temp, yada yada yada. I told the service writer that I understand how the climate control system should work and that I had most recently had a 2019 Acura RDX that was "set and forget". He told me, bottom line, that if I want the temp to be 70 degrees on a hot day, I need to turn the temp down to 63 or lower, then raise it to 70 when it gets near the temp I want. He also told me that he had had to explain this to 5 other customers just this month. (The fact that he has had to "explain" this repeatedly is a sign, to me, that there is a problem with the climate control design.)

This clearly seems to be a software issue. I suppose I will have to live with it as is, but a climate control system is supposed to maintain a temperature in an efficient fashion and not require changing input on the part of the driver. Interested to hear if any other members have to constantly adjust the temperature control on a very hot day.

Since there are still Gen5's on the lot new, wander out there with a service advisor and have them demonstrate how normal this all is. (Because it isn't.) The service advisor is blowing smoke in order to avoid the luckless tech is stuck getting paid for peanuts for a diagnosis that is likely to be a pain in the rear.

Yes, the Gen5 is an efficient vehicle, but it's not stupid. (And there's no efficiency gains to be had either by screwing this up.)
