My wife's 2013 rolled into the local river. It was flooded for over 4 hours. Water was up to the mirrors on the doors, and peaked at the steering column. It was a 2013 EX-L. Is this a total loss?.... It only has 82K.

It's a TOTAL LOSS. One year from now every electronic system will be FUBAR. Do not believe anyone that says once it dries out it will be OK

Maybe not a total loss:
The roof rack might be ok 😉

sorry to poke fun: I’m glad your wife’s ok.

my vote is to strap pontoons on the sides and an outboard motor and drive it into town. It would make great photos for the forum 😉

If you had proper insurance on it the the insurance company would say it is totaled.
If you just had liability then they don't care. @Doubletap is right. The electronics will begin to fail.
Just a matter of time. Enjoy it while you can.
WE have full coverage with $250 deductible, with State Farm. We are in Alaska. The claim agent asked if we wanted to get an estimate for repairs. He was in Georgia. He insisted they have a State Farm staging area it could be taken to. He said they have one in all 50 states.!! Just now(5pm) A StateFarm guy that schedules tow trucks called me from PA! Oh boy! Maybe my next call will be from The Philippines!

she stopped near a pull out near the river where guys back their trailers to launch skiffs(not an official ramp). She thought it was in park. She got out to take a picture. The car started rolling toward the river. She tried to stop it..... to no avail. This took place in S.E. Alaska. Haines highway, 10 miles from town. No cell service, no State Farm, nada, nothing. The two tow trucks in town declined to try...... Had to get a 966 loader to drag it out.

Not just all the electrical problems that will happen, but the transmission vent would allow water in as well as the rear axle, every submerged electrical connector will be a corrosion nightmare at some point. The engine if not flushed real quick is a problem. Then the starter and alternator? Brakes will get a good coating of rust everywhere. And the whole unibody frame has now been filled with water to help it rust. Yeah not good.
At least it got a good cleaning underneath.

Update as of 7 Sept. 8pm Alaska time. The car is still by the river, 10 miles from town. The tow scheduler in PA is going to call the other "service provider" he called them(there are only 2) when they open tomorrow. The first one told me he would tow it for $500. But, he didn't want any more junk cars on his lot. I would have to find another place he could take it. I said I can't take it at my house, as I have no room. I asked the scheduler, what happens if the insurance totals the car? He said, then they own it!!..... Well.... everyone I've talked to said it's a total. Which can't be confirmed without pictures. I have downloaded the State Farm app in order to upload pictures. But in order to take pictures, I need cell phone service, which is not available 10 miles out of town. I live in town. So now the scheduler is supposed to call the other service provider(tow guy)tomorrow to see if they will tow it to town, put it in their lot, and I can take pics there. I don't know what they charge. I have towing coverage, but don't know ,if any, what the limit is.... Stay tuned!

Thank you to everyone whom has responded to this incident. I and my wife are thankful we are safe. As far as service(cell or otherwise) is concerned I long for the good ol'days when ,if you had a problem, You knew who to call, by name, and the only app that was needed was attitude. I'm 74. Cheers! Update as of 12 Sept. After 6 days and over a dozen pictures, and talking with 7 different people(Atlanta,Tennessee, PA,Alaska) I had the car towed to my house by another guy who has an independent shop. There are only two tow trucks in town. He charged $265, as opposed to the other shop that quote me $500+. I wasn't trying to save the insurance bill. It was an attitude thing . Anyway the last guy was finally the claims department . He even gave me his name(no one else would except a first name). He said it was a total. Now awaiting the figure of value. He said it would be based upon an algorithm that is used which includes the mileage(under 100K), and value of current cars for sale in the market. Destination charges would be included. I also told him we have service records and new tires were put on the car last fall to the tune of$1200. This car was like new when we bought it 6 years ago and was a CPO with 60K from a dealer in Minnesota. Stay tuned
