DPF Honda 2.2 ICDTI engine Information Only

Following on from one of the forum members regarding DPF problems Honda 2.2 ICDTI engine, not many people are aware that Europe were using the DPF system before we got this system on the 2.2 IDTEC engine approx. 2010.

The attached pdf makes a good read and provides a few tips.

A very informative piece. Very well written to explain in layman's terms.
I actually found out when I was researching buying my CRV. There was a lot of speculation on the net regarding what year the dpf was introduced onto the CRV diesel in UK.
I previously had a Civic with ictdi engine minus a dpf. And it was one of the reasons I purchased an 09 ictdi rather than the idtec engined one. Its something less of an issue in my opinion. Although lots of idtec engined owners report of very few issues with dpf. And as it suggests within the dpf forum write up the Honda dpf is usually very reliable.
Although after purchasing the CRV I thought I'd made a mistake after seeing the Lings Honda diagram showing a dpf. But after more research I found the info to tell me it was introduced into the UK CRV on the idtec engine.

reporting that it can, and I did it myself - worked fine, and saved me a garage trip

I also used it to reset the SRS codes, what I found was the cable connector underneath the passenger seat was not 'seating' correctly form the seat being moved backwards and forwards. I got the solution from youtube, basically use a simple tie-wrap across the connectors after cleaning them, to stop it moving again. No issues from that since.

"At less than 7g the DPF system will automatically clean itself whilst driving once the DPF is up to correct operating temperature " - this seems to never happen in my car. It has plenty routes of perfect condition for DPF regen. I am driving 25km to work and 25km back and this is not a city traffic at all. Yet the car is always waiting for PM to be 10.5 and then it will start regen. Sometimes it is lucky and this happens when I am on motorway or another fast route.

Sometimes not so lucky.

Today I parked beside workplace when there was PM=10.2 Next I needed to go quickly to the store during break time and car started regen after 2 minutes of driving, with cold engine, about 30 seconds after PM changed to 10.5

This is very silly especially that it could do it so many times when it was fully up to the correct working temperature. Some time ago I was observing it on a motorway. PM was about 9. My exit gas temperature was between 400 to 500 C and car did not start regen. It did it 2 days later when PM was 10.5

So I do not see any intelligence in this. It just waits for PM=10.5 and it starts regen. No matter of the conditions.

I know it, because I am driving with car scanner on for the last few months.

It never show me any warning about DPF, probably thanks to this that I am always looking on my dashboard in car scanner. When regen is underway I never shut it down until it is done.

For everyday live monitoring I'm using Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth plug and Car Scanner Pro app on Android phone.
I can monitor everything related to DPF with it but most of DPF data requires setting up custom PIDs.
I do not know if it can do forced regen.
For this I would use HDS HIM. It is way more cumbersome as it requires laptop but it can do everything

Thanks Jack, I can see "Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth plug " on ebay for ÂŁ18. "Car Scanner Pro app" is described as a "free and safe download" from car-scanner-pro.

The "HDS HIM" module is approx ÂŁ130 on Amazon or approx ÂŁ110 on ebay, possibly both supplied direct from China.

Is there a thread or sub-forum on this forum that deals with monitoring / diagnostics ? I should be able to use keyword searches to pull up useful historical threads.
