Anyone upgraded their air filter?
I am planning to change mine with K&N air filter.

You will receive no improvement in performance or improved MPG..... After many years of drinking the kool aid advertising how great these are supposed to be I NEVER saw anything except a lighter wallet :=)
The only benefit is you can clean the filter and reuse it ( a messy job)
I'm sure many will say I'm wrong.... They will say all kind of wonderful things (a placebo effect)
One more thing to think about ...if these devises did some of the things they claim .... all mfg would have them and to my knowledge no has them

Could not agree more.

To the OP, hold on to (and use) your old paper filter while you let the oil/gauze filter air dry for the day before you can re-apply oil.:(

Yep, The Honda or any other fillter let's your intake get all the air it can use.
A fancy filter like you mentioned will not increase anything except the
bank account of K&N.

I just pulled mine out 2 days ago, vacuumed it and could feel the air
being pulled through it. It was a little dirty where the air comes in so
I turned it to fresh pleats and reinstalled. Of course I really cleaned
the inside of the air box since I had it opened. Running like a champ.

Still not sold........ I have seen videos that show the opposite. All I can say is my experience shows no improvement as far as MPG and any feeling
of more power. Don't you think if it really worked car mfg. would jump on this idea ??? just to get bragging rights ????
CRV has a small engine...low HP and your not going improve anything
I also find it funny that adding cold air induction system don't help...why... because most modern cars already use them :=)

Who drives constantly like they are on a dyno? 4-7 hp is within any dyno's margin of error. Hold that cotton/gauze filter up to a bright light and notice all the pin holes vs the paper filter. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt......no thanks, not anymore. Also, an air filter should never be turned over/reused, so that air flow thru the used filter is reversed.

I had a K&N cone filter on my 96 Miata. No discernible positive or negative impact to the car's performance; but there was an audible difference that made the car sound more aggressive. However, not going to put a cone filter in the CR-V (even if there are aftermarket air intakes available). I will just get a regular (non-K&N) for the CR-V when the time comes.

Really! Read the results of tests on these filters done by experts with the very best equipment. The results speak for themselves. All I can say is that K&N has a lot of people drinking their Kool-Aide:

There is no way I would put one of their filters on an engine I wanted to last a long time. And, to be clear, I have worked with these filters and seen how they performed. And I will not ever again use one on any vehicle I love.

Any new/clean filter is going to flow more than an old/dirty filter. Butt dyno's never lie and if something costs more it must be better.

Used a K&N air filter in my toyota corolla and noticed some difference in air draw and possibly mileage (very very slight if anything) but not necessarily overall performance. If you're going to get a k&N filter you're going to probably need their recharging kit. As others said, the cleanup can be messy.

Yeah, the charges to replace pollen filters are a real scam. The things cost just a few bucks (generics are $6-$8, retail), and in our cars take about two minutes to change, and require zero tools.

(I will say that I'd gladly pay somebody to change out the pollen filter in some cars. I did it on a friend's Fiesta and it was a nightmare; to save costs for LHD vs. RHD they put the HVAC system buried under the dash center. To pull the pollen filter, you needed to pull the footwell kickpanel, five torx screws, two of which were buried deep in the innards behind the glovebox, and then bend the filter to the hairy edge of tearing it to get it in and out of the housing.)

We have on in ours. No real increase in power or mileage but Like knowing I have one in it. I have been running em for 25+ years in all our cars with great results. Great filtering and never buying another filter. But then again we just achieved over 40 mpg with ours on 2 lane back roads (no highways) and ac on last weekend as an average. :)

I use a Honda Filter--It did "look better" than the aftermarket filter
that was in the box.
The engine will only use a certain amount of air--what it needs and no more.
A paper or an oiled filter will not change that at all.
What is important is how good it filters.
