Hi all, driving today went into 5th and it struggled noticed the check engine light flashed about 3 times then went away. Feels alright to drive gently but doesn’t like being booted. What ya guys reckon the codes above showed on the scanner. P1259 which comes up as immobiliser to pcm/vtec system malfunction. And p1298 eld circuit voltage high. Thanks for any advice like I say it runs a bit rough at anything higher than 65mph and struggles when ya not gentle.

P1298 is usually a bad ELD. You can monitor the ELD with a scan tool and will probably see the ELD reading stuck on one value. As a result, the PCM will be in a default fail safe mode and it’ll want high voltage charging from the alternator full time. It probably diminishes your gas mileage a little by not allowing the alternator to go into low voltage mode.

Of all things, I had posted the CRV manual instructions for P1259 when discussing P2646 over at the elementownersclub.com a year back. Hopefully it’ll help you. It’s post #4 in this link: P2646 wiring and oil pressure revisited. Is the factory...

I wanted to come back to this since I realized you’re from the uk given the little flag symbol. The link I gave you shows pages from the USA manual. I’ve noticed variations between ere colors and pcm pin outs between vehicles from Different countries before, so pethaps only using that as a general idea would be better.

HI Hive Minds.
I have a 2002 Mk2 2.0 Petrol
I was driving today and have had P1298 error code come up when i scanned it,

having a quick read through the other comments is sounds like a common fault.
I have recently had the Cam Shaft sensor changed, and has been running perfectly for a while and then all of a sudden the engine management light appeared and is staying solid.
any ideas what it is as the reader just states " Manufacture control"

at the same time i also had the code P0137
appear, i suspect this is due to the fact that i had the Cat stolen a few years ago but never had a notification of this one before, could it be a faulty lamba sensor? I have previously checked all cabling ( after it was stolen) to ensure that there was no breaks in the cable.

Looking forward to hearing back from you all.

Thanks the the info!

Oil was changed about 4 months ago. So possibly need to look at doing it again.
And the battery in the fob I changed about 3 years ago, again for the price. I'll just do it haha!

As for the 02 sensor, could it be that it had the catalytic converter "acquired" from underneath my car just over a year ago. I'm wondering if it's just a cheap one and doesn't actually do anything.
