Fog Lights - Are they worth it ?

I am contemplating whether or not to get fog lights. The big black donut holes in the bumper just look empty.

Those of you THAT ADDED THEM......was it worth it? Why?

JCat,

I'm really not trying to answer every question you post - it just seems that way.

Anyway, I added fog lights because the front end just looks naked without them.

They do offer a bit of low ground and to the side light function, but mainly the front end just looks way better with them. They should be standard anyway. I know they're expensive, but imo - worth every penny.

I have really enjoyed having them. As everyone has said, they really bring out the front of the vehicle, and put out quite a bit of light. It's not been a decision I've regretted. I got mine for $89 at New Egg Mall, and they were not that difficult to install.

the fogs were installed on my V shortly after i purchased it 8+ years ago. i thought they added to the look of the front end of the V.
since i use them almost every night, briefly, while driving the alley to the garage, where various animals and other things lurk, i think they were worth the cost.
and they've even gotten some use in fog, of all things, during both day and night.

but they don't get used at speeds >40mph.

My 2010 Fog Lights

I also thought the front end looked bland with those unused cutouts. I bought the OEM lights from jayhondaaccessories.com, which is actually just a Honda dealership in Northern Ohio trying to make some extra cash. Another site is www.accessories-honda.com, which is another Ohio dealership. Cost was $235 plus $20 for shipping. Installation took about 3 hrs, but the instructions are very detailed and straightforward if you are handy. The video on Youtube by the guys at College Hills Honda is very useful.

Yes, the front end looks better, but the real benefit is the extra side lighting at night. This is especially nice when turning. I used the default elevation setting so I hope I'm not blinding other drivers--we should know soon. I was surprised to find that there's an icon on the display panel that shows that the fog lights are on--so it really is factory-ready for fogs. Clearly, this should be something standard on the EX-L model.

Its mainly aesthetic. I've driven all sorts of vehicles with fogs and the only time I really enjoy them is on my modified 95 Cobra SVT. I have them set to work independently of all the other lights so I can have them on by themselves in dim light or with the running lights and no headlights at all.

As for lighting... a good bulb and a properly setup headlight housing is going to throw out all the light you need. Ppl saying it gives you that extra up close lighting that you don't get otherwise are either blind or have terrible headlights. Not to mention anything that runs out in front of you that you can "only see with fogs" is going to be WAY too close to avoid anyway. My G2's headlights are brand new looking with new OEM bulbs and they throw out PLENTLY of light all around the front of the car when I'm driving.

With that said, I will FOR SURE be getting an OEM set of G2 fogs. The car just looks 1000x better with them and with a bazillion CRVs running around I feel its important to stand out a little bit at least. The OEM G2 spoiler helps too... I have yet to see a G2 with it on the road around these parts.

I had the fogs installed when I bought the car. It seems stupid to me to buy a new car with blank cut outs where the fog lights go. The car looks complete with the lenses in the holes. IMO they are of good use up here in deer country at night. The little bastards stand next to the road deciding whether to cross or not, and with fog lights you can see their eyes way off in the distance so you can slow down.

I had a tree branch punch out the plastic blank, so I had fog light installed rather than replace the whole front bumper. I like them. I think they are worth it to have something with OEM integration, rather than aftermarket switches.

I'v never had a car with fog lights before. I can see their benefits. The road directly in front of the car is very well lit and the corners and side of the road is extremely well lit compared to the standard lights alone. This would definitely make finding the "fog line" in low visibility conditions easier.

The best improvement is being able ot see the road and curb on the inside of a turn at night.

It also adds another 110 watts of load on the electrical system which will cause the engine to warm-up just a little quicker in winter.

SO IMO< not just aesthetic. About 50/50 functional and aesthetic

I got them when bought my new 08 CRV-EXL and they are very helpful and are great lighting up the first 25 feet in front of the car and are wide pointing to the sides to see the signs, street sidewalk curves and paint/marks on the road when snows or in the fog or rain.

I always get fog light on all my cars because they are safer on bad weather conditions and they make any car look much nicer.

When driving on highways at high speed I turn them off because the close foreground light is distracting and your eyes get really tire trying to see far away.

I highly recommend them, specially if you live in places that snows, rains and fogs a lot.

aiming fog lights

Fog lights are set low in front bumpers to reduce their light from reflecting back into your eyes from the moisture of the mist...its called fog...thus fog lights. However they must be aimed correctly, just because the dealer installed them does not mean they did it right. Once they are in, they cannot be adjusted without removing the bumper.

I'm a new member to this forum. I would say that they are worth it. didn't have them in our 2007 CRV, we do on our new 2010. There is a significant difference and the front end looks so much better with them. They really should be standard on a CUV, SUV, but that was my gripe with the 2007. I insisted that they be included in my deal with the new lease in August and the front splash guards too!!. Should have PUSHED harder to have them include the Roof rack too. It's all in your negotiations.

I just ordered fogs from a Honda dealer on Ebay.$238 shipped.
Honda should have at least added a black out pieces in the fog light hole like Toyota does.
The area looks like something is missing and cheap.
