We discovered there are 3rd party items out there that will keep this "feature" in the off mode when car is turned off until you hit the button again. Prices start at $30 and go to $90. Installation doesn't look too bad but we would have our mechanical friend assist. Reviews are excellent and I only saw one negative. This is what it said:

"This worked as advertised, but i noticed while driving down the freeway my steering would intermittently stiffen out slightly, not enough to be dangerous but noticeable and annoying. This only happened at freeway speeds. Didn't realize at the time but there is a link between the start stop system and the electronic steering. When start/stop is engaged while stopped, you will notice your steering is stiffened as a part of the system. I disconnected and removed the eliminator and the problem went away. So now i just turn the start/stop off manually every time i drive. "

We're willing to try though we're not sure if we should go with the very simple $30 or the more complicated $90.

My husband and I are not mechanical so your expert advice is much appreciated.

BTW, if I missed a thread on this topic, please direct me to it. Thanks!

I would be cautious about using aftermarket things that affect drivability like this. I was even skeptical about the muzzler on my ody, but in that case the risk is worth it. In this case, they give you a button to deactivate. Use it. FWIW, I agree with you, I hate that feature and find it very annoying.

There is an issue with the CRV regarding sticky steering. That might be what you're referring to.

i've been using An eliminator since 2020 in my Hondas Including two Ridgelines my current Pilot and my wife's CRVs without a problem.

Purchased most recently on Amazon for $26. Installs in three minutes...

Also there was a recall on the Ridgeline for the start stop system and I didn't remove it, and service said it was fine. All it basically does is reverse the circuit so when it's normally on it's off and when it's off it's on.

There are a lot of reviews on Amazon for these things... nobody's vehicle blew up..LOL.

Thanks to everyone for their opinions. Yours, kingfrog, inspired us to go ahead and purchase the $30 auto stop disabler. The video made it look so easy so we decided to go ahead and do it, without the assistance of our mechanical friend. Success! It took us longer than 3 minutes but it works great!

There's a much better solution to that issue: It's called the Hybrid version of the same car.
You don't need no stinkin' engine on to make the suicidal left turn in front of the semi. Almost 100% of torque available at 0 RPM - so no turbo lag either. AC works great even at the the stoplight with the engine off. Oh yeah, and 37+ mpg average.

What we have found out with our 2023 Accord with the idle-stop feature engaged is this.

When you come to a complete stop, slightly loosen the pressure on the brake pedal. Keep enough pressure to defeat "automatic creep" that happens with automatic transmissions.

By slightly lessening the pressure on the brake pedal the engine will continue running.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

IMO, the difference in fuel economy when using this feature would be completely unmeasureable to a car owner. Only a manufacturer, who makes millions of vehicles, would be able to measure the difference. I do mainly local, stop and go driving and find it quite annoying. As I said earlier, I'm used to just hitting the off button each time I start my car.

2024 CRV EX-L. At first my wife and I used it. Lately we have started to hit the off button at start up now. The funny part is that I ride a bicycle in the city I live in and at all stop lights while I am riding, when the light goes green all the vehicles around me start up. Seems most folks just let it do it's thing....

Not a reply, but a question. Will the Honda CRV maintenance dept. disable this Auto Idle Stop feature if asked?
I've had my ( gas) 2025 CRV for 2 months and on occasion when I've forgotten to press the off button after engine start, have had a couple of scary moments at tricky intersections or waiting at a highway on-ramp. I'd really rather not have this feature on the car. Also, if I then remember to disable it after car is in motion, it doesn't seem to activate.
