Honda CRV 2017 1.5 liter. Oil Maintenance Minder And Change Interval

I use to have Oil changed by Honda Dealership until about 60,000 miles and noticed that dealership damaged lower engine shield and hung it up with plastic ties instead of factory fasteners. I put 3.7 quarts of Mobile 1 0W20 Adanced Fuel Economy Fully Synthetic oil and use an M1-110A Mobile 1 oil filter. When doing oil changes more comes out then what I put in. Is it possible some other conta!instion could be happening such as coolant. Its roughly 4-8 ounces more. I change the oil when maintenance minder is at 40% but not sure how many miles that equates to. Do you think I should get my oil sampled by a lab and if so do you have any recommendstions. Can changing your own oil impact warranty. What percentage do you change your oil at. According to dealer all updates have been applied.

Please answer a couple of questions for me.
Was your lower engine shield correctly attached before you took it to the dealership?
How did you find out that the dealership used zip-ties to hang your engine shield?
Has the dealership made any other gestures to correct the problem that they caused?

They should have told you immediately what they did & they should have corrected the problem on their dime. If the dealership did not tell you at that time what happened, I would immediately go back to them & file a complaint with the service manager. One of the basic assumptions everyone makes when getting service done is that your vehicle will be returned to you in the same condition that it was brought in. Clearly, something is amiss here. If the dealership hems and haws about this, take it to the next level.

BTW, what happened to you is something that us old-timer DIY folks fear will happen when we can no longer do basic maintenance procedures ourselves.

I would check with the dealer in question before jumping the shark on this one. Given that some owners have reported issues with the fasteners working loose and losing the shield, it could be your dealer has decided that fasteners are a bad idea and went with plastic ties (which are inexpensive, reliable, and easily removed when needed).

I don't know that your dealer is the reason for the plastic ties, I am simply taking a different approach on advice from other comments above about getting assertive with the dealer over this.

Also, how long ago was the last dealer service? Kind of hard to go back to a dealer 6+ months later and declare that they boogered up your CRV. So think this through before throwing the dealer under the bus (something many owners love to do).

Three points to make here:

1) not unusual at all to see oil level a bit higher at oil change than when fresh oil is dispensed. It is a characteristic of modern GDI engines.

2) dealers often round up on oil and dispense 4 quarts, rather than 3.7, so first you need to know what the oil level was right after an oil change. Otherwise you can surmise nothing objective.

3) You can run an oil analysis if you like, but you will very likely find nothing unusual at all. Nobody has, in the 5 years of owners running oil analysis on an otherwise normally operating 1.5T engine.

Separately, you are wasting oil by changing it at 40% on the MM. It is not necessary, but is of course your choice to make.

Our Honda CRV 2017 1.5 liter is the only car that I have that I have ever owned that has a lot more oil coming out than what was put in. I put exactly 3.7 quarts or 3 quarts 22.4 oz in. For each time I have done this, more than 4 quarts comes out, which means this is taking up >8% of the total fluid volume that's in there which is 10 or more ounces. I dump the oil at 40% of the maintenance minder each time. I don't think I could go to the 0-5 % for the maintenance minder without the check engine light coming on because it would just have too much fluid. Do you think based on this is there is a problem with engine that others might not be experiencing? Just concerned that oil viscosity is being lost to a considerable amount of additional fluid. The oil would no longer be 0W20 and would might cause additional wear as it would be metal to metal. Thank you Jon

If fuel is the concern, don’t go the Blackstone. Use Oil Analyzers, Inc instead and specify you want fuel dilution measured with gas chromatography. This will give a much, much more accurate result. And no more expensive.
