Does this really accomplish much or is it for show?

It was a first edition.
I have a 2002.

Partially looks but it's functional to a point as well as long as you understand the CRVs limitations. Mine isn't lifted yet but has all terrain (off road as you called them) tires that already raised it a couple inches. And it's very functional, ground clearance and traction are quite helpful when needed. More than a slight lift for tire clearance and BIG tires is pointless and for show though as a CRV doesn't have the power or gearing to really do serious off roading.

But understand these are Jeep Wranglers. Not meant to go mudding or climb rocks.

OK, sorry but your just on the internet without any knowledge or background.

Lifting and giant tires on any vehicle is going to wear it out a lot faster. Doesn't matter what it is. This is no different than lifting a pickup or a Jeep. There are limits before it's too much strain on parts but some mods can be done without issue.
