Jack Stands - 2006 Honda CRV

The user manual for my 2006 Honda CRV explains that the jack points for the car are the 'pinch points' located behind and in front of the front and rear wheels respectively. However, that pinch point is ~13 inches from the ground. Being that the CRV weighs ~3500 pounds, a 3 ton jack stand (rated for 6,000 pounds) should be well enough. However, most are short. For example ,the set linked below says the max height on it is 16 and 7/8 inches, which would only give you an additional < 4 inches of clearance. What's everyone else using to support their CRVs? I'm not opposed to buying 6 ton to get the extended height (and safety), but, I'm just curious to know, does any one else have this problem?

I use the 6 ton stands in the front. On my 2014 CRV, the bottoms of the four pinch points are at the same height, but the rear end clearance is more than the front end. So, the front needs to be lifted higher than the limit on the 3T stands, to give you meaningful clearance for most work. Especially torquing the bolts. I was able to get by with the 3T stands in the rear. I would get those with a double locking pin.

I have 3 sets of jack stands. All of them are tall enough for my 2003 CRV to get 2 wheels off the ground. If I only need 2 wheels off, I prefer to use the US Jack. If I need 4 wheels off such as for tire rotations, I use the craftsman and MVP ones at full maxed out height (since they are about the same max height, it’s easier to have the car relatively level).

Left 6 ton US Jack max @25-1/2”, Middle 4 ton Craftsman max@17-5/16”, right 2 ton MVP max@17-3/16” (measurements by specs printed on the stand. I didn’t confirm the spec.)

I use the 1.5 ton floor jack to lift the CRV. Then use the 3 ton jack stand to keep the car stable. Since the lift can only lift about 13 to 14 inches, I use a block of wood on top of the jack for that one inch more height. The car lifts up and the jack stand go under the pinch points with a notch or two to go before the top.

So, question become what do you use to lift the car so high that you can use the 6 ton jack stands? I mean I get my stuff from Harbor Freight. Cheap and works for me. For oil changes , I have a pair of Rhino ramps. To crawl under I have a cheap creeper. I have looked at the quick jacks and such but they start in the thousands. You get quite some lift but, I don't know if I want to spend so much for a couple of inches more?

First pic below are an orange 3 ton Harbor Freight jack that lifts to 20” high, next to a dark blue 3 ton Hein Werner jack that lifts to a little over 24” high. Second pic includes a 80+ year old 2 ton Walker jack that lifts to just under 20”.

How much lift height I need depends on the vehicle I’m working on. Sometimes it variable. I’ve got a ford van where the front jacking point is about 5 inches lower than where the stands go. And the 6 ton stands are maxed at 25“+ inches out to have the front tires off the ground. I could, frankly, use another inch or 2. However, for the rears of that van, I lift from the shock mount and put stands under the axles. It only needs around 10-11” back there.
