Leaking strut, when to replace?

I found a note on a shop summary from some time ago stating "passenger strut leaking". Should this be enough to have the strut replaced or is there some consideration of how much it is leaking before making the decision to replace. If I should replace it, is there any benefit in replacing the other other struts or is there no need and should just consider each one in isolation when they need addressing?

Replace in pairs. I believe the rule of thumb is to replace if it is more than a very small amount of leakage. In other words if it’s running down the strut it has basically leaked out and lost function.

You should do the 'bounce test'.

Push down on that corner of the car. When you let go, it should not cycle more than one time.

If you do decide to replace, always do them in axle sets.

If you decide that it isn't causing enough of an issue to replace, at least clean the excess oil off. Monitor the amount of control as you drive.

If they are originals from 2003, and you've done more than 200,000kms then they are toast anyway. I did a side by side 'push and pull' comparison with my old ones and they sure react differently to the new ones!

With the mileage your 2003 has probably accumulated, replacing all the suspension parts may be in order.

Will agree in replacing the struts in pairs. The other suspension parts such as sway bar links may also need to be changed. Much easier replacing all the suspension parts with the struts off, as I know from doing that on our 2008. Replacing all those parts at the same time should lower your labor costs if you only do the struts now, then have to go back to replace the other suspension parts.
