My muffler rattles when idling and sometimes when driving down the road. My brother has narrowed it down by replacing the insulators around the muffler and check the rear differential. Any ideas as to what is causing the problem. No code/light is on so I'm not sure what would need to be done. Any help would be appreciated.

The sound is coming from the muffler itself not the cat. convertor.Probably a cracked/broken heat shield on the catalytic converter.
Easiest way to fix (or just diagnose) is to install one or two large hose clamps around the heat shield, to hold it tight. This article shows you how.
