My fender got dented... Now my bumper >=T

I guess it finally happened... I was at Target and went to get my daughter out of her car seat, a Toyota Corolla driven by a lady and her 3 grandkids parks next to us and I get this feeling that something was going to happen. So I'm watching the whole time, and the lady open her door (do you really need to open the door all the way to get out???), and wham! Her door goes right into my front fender. She looks over to me watching her and I have "WTF" written all over my face. She said sorry, and I went to assess the damage. There were some white scuffs, and some tiny dents right on the line on the fender (which probably can't be easily fixed). I calmly asked for her insurance info because she was gonna be responsible for the repairs. She goes to look at it and licks her finger and starts trying to rub off the scuffs and she says that there's nothing there (also, her 10-12 year old grandkid decided to lean up on my car). Seriously, WTF?!?... I ask her to stop touching my car and told her grandkid to get off. I'm pretty anal about my cars and I know a blemish when I see it, you have to see it from all angles and you'll see it. Her car was pretty messed up so I expected her to be like whatever about it. Her kid also had the nerve to give me his 2 cents, "what dent???" Minor as it is, she damaged my car and I was right there witnessing it as it happened.

Man, look at all that room she had to get out, ughhh!

Just sucks- these days people have no respect for some one else's Property. So what happened- did she pay for damages or you got her insurance Info?

Happened last night and reported to insurance right away... I guess I just wait at this point to see if they take on liability, which they should... If I wasn't there when it happened, I probably wouldn't be as mad, but to witness the disrespect as it was happening, man it sucks. I really don't get how people can be so careless and give zero F's about someone else's property... I'm usually pretty cautious of where I park, I only had to run in to get diapers.

I feel your pain. About a month ago, my, then 6-week old EX-L got its first parking lot "injury".

I was parked in the lot where I work. I was approaching my car at the end of the day to head home and, immediately, noticed a half-inch long scratch on the passenger side rear corner panel above the wheel well. Upon closer inspection, I noted a very slight dent in the panel, as well. While the damage was minimal, it still stuck out like a sore thumb on a brand new vehicle that I'm being, extremely, meticulous about. I can, only, guess that someone, carelessly, bumped me with their door at some point during the day.

Even more frustrating was the fact that I had no idea who did it and no one ever admitted fault, leaving me to deal with it. Whoever might've been parked next to me was long gone. Some people just have no respect for other people's property. To add insult to injury, I had been parking in the same lot for 9-and-a-half years with my previous car. Never had an issue. The second I get a new car...Murphy's Law.

Long story short, and $700 later (paint work isn't cheap, unfortunately), my car is back to brand new. I'm, now, parking in the, less populous, far end of the lot to keep my V safe (walking's good for you).

Hopefully, you got the Corolla lady's insurance info. As the "at fault" party, her insurance company should be footing the bill for repairs.

... and that's a good part of the reason I've been holding off buying the new CRV because of the people out there in the parking lots that don't care about their vehicle or the one next to it. Eventually I'm going to make the plunge but hate worrying about potential scratches and dents done by idiots.

Saw a 1970 Caddy Coupe de Ville for sale other day. Almost bought it just for this reason. Think I'll buy it and put a big brush guard on the bumper, then just dare someone to hit me or cut me off in traffic. You think you got mad, I had a hit and run in the rear 8 wks after getting mine. When I was exiting my car he backs up and takes off. I'm sure it wasn't his car and he had no ins, license and had been drinking. I got the plate # and a witness, but my ins. co. couldn't prove who was driving so I had to pay my ded. I think it should have been covered under unins. motorists but they don't see it like that. I think a 72 Plymouth Fury III might also make a good second car.

That's another reason I always try to find an end spot and then park as close as possible to the curb (if there is one). People are getting fatter and they need to open their doors wider to exit their vehicle.

Best thing to do is try some wax on the blemishs and work your way up to rubbing compound if the wax doesn't remove it. Finally find one of those paintless dent removal operations. They can work wonders on small dents.

I recently had this happen to my other car while I was not around. Smack dab in the middle of the door on my X3 there is a nasty ding. As soon as I came around the corner it was the first thing I noticed. My mom had someone back a tow hitch with a ball on it through the grill on her Volvo, because they just had to back into the parking place. People can be real jerks.

It would be cool if the CRV (or any new car) had lane-watch cameras on both mirrors, used all outward cameras for dashcam DVR loop-recording while driving, and shock sensor activated while parked! Until then I'm trying my best to park in the back, but inevetably we all get door dings... That's why I chose boring silver, since it hides dirt, scratches, and dings more easily.

My wife makes fun of me parking away from crowded areas. She gets a beautiful new white Fit and proceeds to park it in between two cars are the grocery store. She comes out and the lady next to her in a big Ford SUV saw her and was rushing to pull away from where she was parked up next to my wife's little Fit. Sure enough as my wife gets next to her new Fit she sees a majorly deep, sharp edged dent in the side of her new car. The lady was rushing to make her get away before my wife could stop her.
My wife was sad, her shiny new baby now has this big dent in the side because this careless, thoughtless woman in the big Ford Expedition needed to throw open her massive door for her fat @ss to get up in her monster SUV. She doesn't make fun of me so much any more.

I was greeted with this s#!t today... Some jerk decided to rest his jacked up license plate (4CRV??? not funny) on my bumper and left me with this... First the door ding and now this... A few weeks ago, someone put 2 scratches in my bumper too... These types can't be repaired can they?

Sure they can! I'd contact a Colors on Parade franchise. I've used them a couple of times over the years and was absolutely amazed at what they're able to accomplish, and at relatively inexpensive prices!

That license plate was kinda ironic. I guess you could scratch 4LEXSUCKS on their hood in return, but they prob wouldn't even notice.

My new V is definitely the most expensive vehicle I've ever purchased so far and I'll park it far away when I can, but I'm gonna try to not get bent outta shape when the inevitable first dings and scratches happen. This weekend I took it offroad for the first time up a small mountian - rolling over baseball sized rocks, through ruts that I almost bottomed out, and past protruding briars and small branches that left light scratches on the paint. They're light enough to buff out with wax, but that scrapping sound was horrible!

Oh I though the license plate scratched up your bumper. Ok not the same. The back bumper of all my cars have been very dented from ppl who parallel park by actually bumping their license plate bolts into my plastic bumper. Just part of living in a crowded urban place...

Sorry you just can't catch a break, HYUN513. Obviously, the Lexus guy cares nothing about his own vehicle, as evidenced by the clear coat peel all over his hood.

I've been watching my baby like a hawk since I had my ding repaired. I'm always very careful about where and how I park. Unfortunately, I have no control over the idiot who decides to park next to me.

Well, it's gonna be another week before I hear anything back regarding the claim... Apparently the insurance info for the lady that hit my car isn't valid and my insurance company needs to go through DMV to confirm her insurance (if she has any)... Sucks living in the city w/o a garage. No matter how cautious I am, I can't control careless people are.

Mine was customized by a 1993 Ford F150. Had 1600 miles. Lady backed into the drivers side "plastic" fender doing a great job and popping off trim etc. Cost to repair was 862 bucks. Body shop did GREAT job color matching (sandstorm) and factory parts. I also sought out a Diminished Value Claim against her Ins co. Google this gem if you aren't aware of it. Certainly helps and dopn't settle for their bogus 17c calculation.
